ABOUT THE AUTHOR
This poetry, "Ship's Journey", comes from inspirational thoughts in my
Journey to recovery from a Mental Illness commonly referred to as Borderline Personality
Disorder (BPD).
After thirty eight years of a destructive life and not understanding why I made a selfish
choice to attempt a suicide this past January!
Years of frustration living within the imprisoned mind and life of BPD, I had finally
reached a point of believing that the key to release of freedom from this awful disease
was to move into eternity! Prior to my attempted suicide I had experienced my last
impulsive behavior which was devastating and beyond destruction to myself and others. I
had what I thought fallen in love with a man over the internet. He living in the state of
Virginia and I surrounded by the rockie mountains and pacific ocean in Vancouver Canada,
impulsively decided to meet in Calgary. Once meeting him I decided to drive him back to
Virginia.
I was married with two children at this time. Recovering from an illness in the previous
month wich allowed me to experience the near death experience in a coma for 12 days
awakening in a state of mind and body paralysis!
I returned to Canada six months later to learn I had lost everything. My home, my husband,
my children, my extended family... I had in the truest sense lost everything. I found my
self homeless, pennyless and most of all having nothing left but life to live by each
minute. My only hope was hoplessness itself. So I choose to take what I had left "my
life".
It is now five months later and I have since graduated from a full time five day a week
six hour a day 12 week intense program of psychotherapy. I am well on my way in my journey
to wellness. I am now living in my own home in the final stages of completeing the divorce
process. I am working on building a healthy relationship with my two boys! Everything has
changed for me! Most of all for the first time in my life I truly feel awesome and love
this journey to wellness. This poem is a parallel to my journey of past and present!
Through recovery I discovered poetry and short story writing as a way to express
"feelings", "thoughts", "words" and "behaviors".
Through poetry I am exploring another side of life.
I am interested in live theater, psychology, current affairs and how they effect
individual societies! I am currently exploring creative ways in maintaining a life style
that will allow me to continue to focus in on the creative ways of expressing my wisdom
and sharing my life experiences!
I look forward in receiving feedback from people world wide. I embrace the opportunity in
reading all views, thoughts and opinions of others. Such an incredible opportunity this
will be in taking my interests one step further. [May 1999]

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am a 29 year old female, I live In Auburn, Washington. I have a fiance and an almost 8
year old boy. I started writing back when I was about 14, a english literature teacher saw
potential and encouraged it, which helped because, it was my only way I could get my mom
to understand me through my tough teen age years with out a constant battle. She
understood through my stories and poems. To this day, that is the only way I can
successfully explain complex feelings I am having, even when I dont understand them
myself. [May 1999]

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in middlesbrough, Cleveland on the 11th of October 1969. Youngest child of
six. My mother was 38 at the time of my birth, my oldest sister had a child of her own
born six months previous of my arrival. I suppose I had been the result of One last
try before the divorce. My father managed to kidnap my older sister, she was five at
the time. My mother struggled to keep me at her side We moved to Scotland, where I was
brought up with the help of my grandparents ,nana and papa. Times were hard
and money was scarce, but I was fed a healthy diet of love. Without the experience of
hardship and the true understanding of love, I wouldnt have been able to respect
what I have today. I have three beautiful children of my own and a wonderful, loving
husband. we have been married for eight years. I am 29 now, and never take life for
granted. Although I never acheived what I could have at School, I soon realised the
importance of education and returned to Adult Education in 1988. Since then I have studied
Social Science, Consumer Law and improved my writing skills. I am currently working
part-time as a residential Social Worker, and living in Dorset. "Taming Sophie",
is dedicated to the fond memories of Agnes and John. [May 1999]

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Just starting my last year at school. Always enjoyed writing, but a few years ago found
myself being taught English by a teacher who actually held my interest in the subject.
Thanks to that, my stories, and poems, have become more than I ever expected. Another
thing that has pehaps helped, is that I have started to figure out who I am, and to have
some idea of that really helps. Anyway, after large amounts of praise of my writing by
teachers, friends and family, I present the world with my work. If you like it, I have
more, even a novel (or at least an attempt at one).
Interests: Computers (games, programming, internet...), Radio controlled cars. [June 1999]
