A Teen's Diary Entry Rachel Elaine Reeves
Dear Diary:
You see I'm not really sure what happened. The first thing I remember is the booming voice of that cop reading something about my rights and slapping on those cold cuffs. You see my friends and I went to a party where there was some drinking. Yeah I had a few, well three or four. I was supposed to be the designated driver. I remember leaving the party behind the wheel of my mom's Cherokee. Lights were coming right at us and Danny yelled "Look out!" Then everything went black. My mother didn't know whether I was dead or alive when she got a call to come to the station. Mom was the one who told me the horrible news. My two best friends were killed instantly. Danny had been thrown from the vehicle. But that wasn't all. A seven month pregnant woman was on her way home from a church social. They were also killed. It was her headlights I saw. I had crossed the center line and struck her vehicle head-on. She lived a short time before being pronounced dead at the local hospital. I had only cuts and bruises. But that now seems to be the least of my problems. It is now the morning after the tragedy and my lawyer is bargaining with the district attorney-- life in prison in exchange for a guilty plea. In less than two weeks I was to graduate fifth in my class with a chance at a full academic scholarship. NOW I'm facing life in prison without chance of parole. God why did I drink and drive! Four people are dead because of my carelessness! My mom's daughter is a convict! IF ANYONE READS THIS-- PLEASE, PLEASE!! DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!

"Even though it conveys a good message, this kind of writing is so generic. Every bit of fictional writing on drunk driving is the same. Think of a more elaborate story. " -- Meg, Baton Rouge, LA, USA.
"I was going to use this as an opportunity to call Meg a tight b*tch, but turns out she was right...this story SUCKED! It's only saving grace was that it was short. Short and sucky, just like your mother likes it, Reeves. I hope the next time you *try* (try being the operative word)-try-to write, choose a topic that hasn't been done 309,079,876,529,111,846 times before. " -- Tyrant.
"Meg's a Tight b*tch! Wha-who said that? Why, none other than me, Ricky Martin! Look, I said it twice! " -- Ricky Martin.
"Gripping realism. This would also make a convincing central theme if the author should decide to further build upon the story from its present form." -- Joan.
"The story was really moving. It made me realize how everyday of our lives people drink and drive and never think that anything is going to happen to them. But it does and when it happens you life changes forever. I couldn't imagion what the author of this story goes through every day, know that she killed 4 people, 2 of which were he best friends. I really hope more people read this article so they truely understand the importance of a DD." -- Lacy Penn, Bloominton, IL, USA.
"Hmm, I don't think someone will get a life sentence for DUI manslaughter." -- Bengt.
