As Told By Me (2)
“Oh Shit!” As if things couldn’t get any worse, I just saw someone get shot. “hey, who are you? How’d you get here?” I was looking strait in the face of a man who was speaking in what seemed to be an accent that wasn’t from around here. The man was at least 6’4 had on a blackish suit with some sort of gold necklace, his hair was black and gelled down like a mobsters, and his facial expressions were to say the lest very intimidating. He must have been saying something because all of a sudden I felt him shake me and herd him say something. “Hey are you all right?” I wanted to say oh ya just peachy, I almost got arrested, I ran from the cops I didn’t get the car and I just saw someone die. But instead I said, “Your not from around hear are you?” I can’t believe that just came out of my mouth. He looked at me puzzled, I caught him off guard and turned around to opened the door and run out but just as I did he caught me by the back of the shirt. “And were do you think your going?” “Um I uh um my, my moms calling me ya that’s it my moms calling me. “ I tried to give a little laugh to lighten things up but he just stared. “Listen man I didn’t see nothing I swear come on just let me go.” “ You’re bleeding.” “What!?” I was so confused it wasn’t even funny. This guy was concerned that I was bleeding but just shot someone is it just me or is something a little wrong with that picture? “You’re left arm it’s bleeding” he said. “ Oh.” I looked down and there was a big gash just above my elbow. I looked at it and touched it. “Ow.” “Why did you touch it?” “I don’t know, why do you care?” Do you ever wonder why people talk the way they do? I sure do and this incident just proves people are messed up. “Kid, what did you see?” he asked. “ Nothing I swear I didn’t see anything.” “Ok guess you can go home, and get your arm cleaned up.” “Uh sure.” I wasn’t sure what just happened all I know was that I was leaving. I left the building an and checked my watch 9:40 the cops should be done looking for me by now so as casually as I could I just started walking. I wasn’t sure were I was going but I’d know it when I got there. I was only a few feet from the building when the guy walked out and goes to his car (at lest I think it’s his). I look to see if any one was around and sure enough there was a cop “Hey you, ya kid you.” I turn around put on an innocent look on my face, because all I need is to get arrested right now “Have you seen anyone that looks suspicious or --.” “There you are son, you said you were just going to go to your friends then come back home.” (and then there were three)He had rolled down the passenger window and was leaning over so you could hear him talk. The guy must have thought that I was going to tell the cop everything. “Sorry officer, has he been causing trouble?” “No --.” “Good, well don’t just stand there get in the car and let the police man get on with his job.” I didn’t know what ells I could do, I couldn’t talk because then the cop would probably think I wasn’t the guys son, and if I got in the car I had no clue what to expect. So because of the fact I don’t trust cops I just nodded and got into the car. If your thinking I’m crazy to get in a car with some psycho I probably am but to me it’s better than talking to a cop. “What’s your name kid?” “Trent, yours? Were are we going?” “We’re not going anywhere I’m dropping you off at a hospital.” “Why I’m not even bleeding I’ll just clean it up when I get home.” “Your not going to clean it, are you?” “Probably not but if drop me off at hospital I’m just ganna call a cab and leave, why are you so concerned any way?” “ Concerned, were you not just with me a few minutes ago? Did you not see what happened to that guy? I just don’t want you to have to go home and tell your parents what really happened, because they see your arm all torn up and dirty.” “Fat chance, my parents aren’t ever home and even if they were they wouldn’t waste time talking to me.” “You know it’s a real shame when parents don’t spend time with their kids, you know that’s probably why kids are being so uncontrollable, all they want is a little attention. “Let me guess when you were a kid your parents were never home either and that’s why you turned out the way you did” This guy was amazing but I guess some people are meant to be misunderstood. Not that I could really judge the guy but that’s what I thought. “Acutely my dad died when I was little and my mom had to work very hard to support us. She was home as much as she could, I just knew I couldn’t be stuck in some low paying going no were job.” (Is it just me or did his last sentence sound very familiar? Hmm I wonder.) “Hey man turn right here go up two blocks and the hospital should be somewhere on your left.” “Ok.” The rest of the way we drove in silence. It’s always awkward driving in a car with a complete stranger isn’t it? Thank God we were only 10 minutes from the hospital. We pulled up just as a bicyclist was being pulled out of an ambulance, I wont go into details but from now on I’m always going to wear a helmet. So as I was saying we got to the hospital, but instead of dropping me of he guy pulled into the parking garage. “Listen man you, you could just drop me off, I don’t need you to hold my hand. “If I don’t make sure someone cleans you up then noon will.” “So, what’s the problem, why do you care so much any ways?” “I don’t care, like I said I don’t want people asking questions.” “So your telling me that if I have a bandage and stitches in my arm everyone is going to assume that everything is fine? How are you going to pay for this? Who are you going to say you are you --.” He pulled me out of the car before I let him answerer, he probably wouldn’t have answered any way but hey don’t kill a guy for trying. I figures that I had two choices one was to run when we entered the hospital or two I could just go with the flow and get cleaned up. The only thing that was really bothering me was why he wouldn’t tell me his name and why did he care so much if I was cleaned. “Wait here.” He pointed to a chair. “What why cant I go with you?” He just walked off I don’t think he heard me. “hehehe.” I looked to my right to see a 4-year-old girl laughing and pointing at me. “Did you fall off your bike and go boom? HAHAHA.” She started to laugh hysterically; I thought she was going to choke. I just wasn’t in the mood to be laughed at by some 4-year-old covered in melted chocolate from head to toe. “Ya, I’m real funny ha ha why don’t you look in the mirror then we’ll see who’s funnier.” (I’m not good with kids) The little girl stopped laughing and all of a sudden her lip started to quiver and she began to scream. “Young man I cant believe you would talk to such a little kid in that tone of voice, I should teach you some manners, were are your parents I’m going to tell them what you said.” The lady looked like one of those substitute teacher whose face is all pinched and the skin is way to tight for her face and her nose sticks out about 5 inches from her face. Just as she was finishing her speech the guy walked and started to say something but was interrupted by the mom of the now wailing child. “Is this your son, do you know what he said to my daughter, do you; you should teach that boy some manners before he gets hurt,” she said pointing in his face. He smacked me on the back of the head and said, “Say sorry Trent.” “Sorry.” We began to walk off when the lady started up again but the guy kept on walking to a room. When I reached the door I turned around and made a hand gesture at the lady (immature I know but her reaction was priceless, it’s the little things in life). The room had that clean smell that only existed in nursing homes, and funeral parlors. Every thing in the was a shade of white the walls, cabinets, even the doctors swivel chair. “I’m going to clean that nasty gash on your arm, then the doctor will be in to see you,” These words were said by a monster of a woman who was at least 7’0 foot. Her hands were as big as baseball mitts, and her shoes looked liked they belonged to a clown (I meet the weirdest people if they aren’t murders they are psychos or giants). “ok…” my voice cracked, I wonder if my voice sounded that nervous all the time. “Are you worried about the pain? Don’t be I’ll give you a shot for the pain.” “Gulp (I hated shots like Indian Jones hated snakes) great.” I could hear the guy laugh in the corner. “Well aren’t you just the cutest thing,” she said as she pinched my cheek and walked out. When I was sure the nurse had walked out I couldn’t help but ask. “So what’s your name you still haven’t tolled me?” “Kid why does it matter so much?” “Because I’m sick of calling you man or guy.” “What?” (He doesn’t know about this) “Nothing, so what’s your name anyways? “ if you really need to know its Bull.” At that moment all the air in my body left, it felt like someone had punched me square in the gut. I knew I had seen him before, well not seen but described, no informed about “The Bull”. At the age of 14 he was arrested for attempted robbery and assault but was set free because the man he assaulted refused to testify, on account that the Bull had been robbing his jewelry store fore the Sabato crime family. Another accomplishment The Bull was famous for was that when he was 18 he cheated a Vegas casino out of 150 g’s and was never caught (people are such idiots). By the time he was 23 he was a “made man” for the Sabato crime family (one of the youngest people ever made). By the time he was 28 he was done with the “family” and wanted to start his own privet business. Its not that he didn’t like the mafia he would rather be hid own boss, now getting out of the mafia is a lot harder than it sounds but some how he did it. Since he was his own boss he decided that he didn’t want to do the “small” or “unimportant” jobs. He became known as the Bull for two reasons, one every time he was in jail he would get released in a day or two after being arrested thus bull shiting his way out of anything, and two people said he had the temperature of a bull and twice as tough. Nobody messed with this guy and I mean nobody. 35 minutes later we were back in his car and I was still in a little bit shocked this guy was, well like a super villain, like in the bat man comics. “Kid, are you going to tell me the neighbor hood you live in or not?” “Sorry, I was thinking, turn left at the stop sign, I’m the third house down, its kind of brown “ok.” He replied “so how long are in New York, I mean I thought that you lived in l.a.?” I didn’t think he would answerer but it was better sitting in a car with a conversation instead of sitting in a car with that awkward silence “Well, I’m looking for two people who have stolen a substantial amount of money from my boss, once I find those two I’m out of here.” “I hope you find them, that’s my house on the right you can stop here.” “Kid if you live in this part of town what were you doing all the way across the city?” “Because you are also a fellow criminal I’ll tell I was trying to steal a car from the impound lot.” He had pulled up by the curb and we had been sitting there for a while. If my brother was up he would probably spy on me through his window, and then tell my parents I was out past my bed time or something stupid like that. “I don’t mean to be rude, it’s been well awkward and I must be going.” “Trent before you go I might need your help in finding those men I could pay you seventy-five dollars a day.” “Make it a hundred and you’ve got a deal, here this is my beeper number if you need me call it and ill answer it in a few minutes.” “ What if I need your help when you’re at school?” “What’s your point? It’s not like I’m learning anything important.” And with that he nodded and drove off.. Before I could even close the door my brother was standing in the hallway wearing red super man pajamas, red was always a bad color for him. It always made him look like an overripe tomato; even at the age of 17 he was a giant dork. “Where have you been,” he asked in that pretentious voice of his? “Unlike you my fat amigo ----“ “What did you call me?” “ Oh nothing my cool older brother, I was just saying that I have a night life that requires me to be out at all hours of the night.” Instead of waiting for him to answer I walked to my room and left him there saying gibberish and pointing at his watch. It was around three am , my brother was annoying, both of my parents were gone, and I personally thought that I deserved some rest, it wasn’t log before I drifted off to sleep. The taste of revenge I had to have fallen asleep with my clothes on because the next thing I remembered was hearing my beeper go off and seeing my alarm clocks dull green numbers read 1:46 (about 10 hours of sleep, not bad, not bad at all). I looked to see who beeped me expecting to see Rome’s number; instead it was a number I had never seen before. It couldn’t have been bull I had disrespected him way to much, to say the lest I was surprised I wasn’t dead. It was Saturday and I didn’t have anything to do so I called. “hello,” I asked expecting the person on the other end to say I have the wrong number. “hey kid its me, you said you were going o help me find some people for seventy-five dollars a day.” “Fine, were do you want me to meet you and what time?” “I’m parked outside our house so hurry up.” “Your parked out side my where?!” I looked out the window to make sure he wasn’t just joking around with me. Needless to say he was there. “What are you trying to do, make my parents suspicious? I thought that was your number one concern?” “Never mind that, my flight is tomorrow at 8:00 p.m., so as you might be able to figure out need to find these people, so get out.” Click I was out of the front door before I saw any family member. Bull was leaning against his car staring at me when I came out. “So who are you looking for any way?” “Two men you might know them they’ve stolen a couple of million dollars from my boss, the cars were used to transport money but someone found out and started stealing the cars. he handed me two pictures one was a cop standing out side of a station. The other was a man leaning on a sign that read: widget dock and smoking a cigarette. “The first picture is a dirty cop named Rome and the guy leaning on the sign is Mike Green, (like I needed to be tolled who they were) so do you know them?” “What happens if I do know them? I mean what happens if I worked for them, I mean hypothetically.” “Well if you knew what they were doing or if you were a major player in their scheme, why?” “Oh um no reason you know just wondering.” “Listen kid I’m not really interested if you worked for them or not, all I want to do is find these people and get out.” “Ok I’m pretty sure that they will be hanging out at widget dock. Lets see were on gate street, so its about 20 minutes from here” “good, good. Do you have a way that you could get them into a closed space by themselves so I can “talk” to them?” “Ya, they own a sea food shop on the dock. So if anyone asked why it their always down their they have a great alibi. Any ways in the back they have a small meat locker to store every thing. Every time I, I mean people go to talk to them they take them into the locker. That’s about all I know, do you have any ideas?” “Perfect, good work kid. Listen you go in to talk to them about what ever and make sure they go to the meat locker, I’ll sneak in the back door and wait for you in there. There is a back door right? Is it guarded?” “There’s a back door that will take you through the kitchen. Keep going and you’ll see a metal door go in and you in the locker. “Ok lead them to the room then shut the door behind them and make sure no body comes snooping around. Then wait until I come out and we’ll leave. Understand?” “Ya I understand.” Just like I had said twenty minutes later and we were at Sammy’s seafood. “If you park around back the door will be right there,” I said pointing to the back. “Ok I’ll go in wait 5 minutes then walk to the front and get them in the locker.” “Sure piece of cake,” I was praying it was as easy as it sounded. He got out of the car and went into the door. I watched the clock the minutes seemed to go on forever. I kept going through the plan in my head, over and over and over again. Usually I would think of every possible thing that could go wrong, but this time I didn’t. It was a lot easier to have someone ells think of a plan and be in charge, it was also very different. After the five minutes was up I walked to the front just like I was tolled. After I pushed the door open Rome and mike jumped up at the same and started yelling they both walked over each one took an arm and dragged me to the locker, as far as I’m concerned things were going great. I could barley walk because they were going so fast, so any thing in my way I would have fallen over if they weren’t holding on to me. Just as I predicted they were headed to the meat locker. “What are you kid stupid? Did you think Rome and I were threatening you for fun? Did you think the police wouldn’t notice what an unprofessional job you did,” all this had been by mike as he was shoving me into the doorway of the freezer. “oww watch out,” he had to hit my arm, he couldn’t have shoved my leg into the door oh no it had to have been from my leg. “Shut up and get in there,” Rome was pushing the rest of my body in. the locker had that awful overpowering fish smell. Please if you read this please R/R and tell me if you would want to see an ending, for some reason it had one but got lost some how. thanx for the R/R i really appreciate it!
