Sonnet 35 (2) “If not, you weren’t had a chance to meet me” Kyle watches her and as soon as he knows, his heart beats faster and faster. He knows it is something that was so impossible to happen but she’s changing him. He’s in love with her. He kisses her on the lips, closing his eyes. When he opens his eyes, Rose smiles at him and take a few steps backward and more steps until she looks as if she’s about to fall off from the balcony and that’s when Kyle screams, “No!!!” He grabs Rose’s hand and she finds out Rose laughing and says, “I’m a ghost Kyle. Even if I fall, I had died” Kyle feels very stupid on his action. He scratches his head even though it’s not itchy. He laughs a little bit; maybe that was his first laughter after a few years. He could still remember that his last laughter was when he’s still a little kid. Chapter 9 – Stanley Nothing much of these news will catch my attention. No, wait! The earthquake hits Florida again. Thank God I’m working at New York. Natures, changing and changing but I’m never going to change my nature. Hey! Who’s that running down the stairs? I need to move a little backward to see. Oh God! Be serious! Is that Kyle? No way, he never dances and he never will but he did now. And he sings too. This is way out of the ordinary. Uh! This wall is really blocking my view. Oops… I’m losing my balance. Ouch! It’s hurt. How could I fall down like this? I better tell his to the others and wake up from here. Where are they? Oh! Outside. “Hey! All of you” “What?” that’s Leigh-Vie answers. “Did any of you saw Kyle?” “What’s up with that weirdo?” asks Jason “Well, I saw him singing and dancing just then” “Ha! Ha! You’ve got to be kidding me” Jason laughs. “Well, I’m not Jason” I can see that Vellette is laughing a little at me. I know that they didn’t believe me. “Hey! I’m serious!” Jason gets up and touch my shoulder and he says, “My man, Stan, you are always serious” Then, all of them continue laughing again. That’s Kyle! “Look! Kyle is there” All of them turn to look at Kyle. I can see that he’s playing kite. What’s wrong with him? He’s acting like he’s talking to somebody. This is not good. Was he possessed by evil spirit? I don’t know what to say. Vellette, Leigh-Vie and Jason also watch in amazement. “To who he’s talking?” Vellette says. Jason answers him, “Don’t ask me. He’s gone totally mad” “I’ve told you,” I say. Leigh-Vie is still stood there watching, like a stone. Kyle is turning at me, at us. He’s smiling at us? I’ve got to smile back and so I did. “Hi!!!” did I just hear he says that? Yes He says that. And so, we wave him ‘hi’ too. Chapter 10 – Kyle “They must have think you’re crazy” Rose say. “Why?” I ask. “You’re talking alone for them” “Let’s go somewhere else then. I don’t care what they think. Just as long as I have you near me” Rose smiles. I really love to see that smile. She’s so beautiful. She’s a ghost, yes she is but I’m so I love with her. There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s just a feeling that you can’t fight. It comes by itself and it never says when it will go. I don’t even bother to know when. She’s changing me, I knew it but I don’t care. I just want her near me. That was all I’m asking for. We are in my room now. I saw that little girl outside again. “Rose, what is the pregnant woman’s name?” “She is Madam Windcastle” “The owner of this house?” “Yes” “The angry woman?” “Rose” Kyle watches her. “The hardworking girl?” “Rose” “The sad woman?” “Rose” “All of you are Rose?” “We are all Madam Rosalind Windcastle. But I’m still Rosalind Johannes” “You are Rosalind Windcastle when she’s sixteen. You haven’t married to Howard Windcastle” “I don’t know him, Kyle. I don’t know who is Howard. I just know you. And I love you” “Me too” I can tell that Rosalind Windcastle died with her emotions scattering around. Her life history and her feelings are all around me now. Fill this house where she died. Chapter 11 – The Truth Kyle was sitting on his bed; Rose hasn’t show up since this morning. He wonders why. “Rose…” he whispers out loud. Suddenly, things inside his room are being throws around. “Stop it” he says calmly. “You are a bloody fool!” the angry Rose says. “Why is that?” “You think Rose would stay with you forever?” “What are you saying?” “You are so stupid! None of us here want to live this way forever. We are all stuck here. We wish to be free. We wanted to be free” “To be free?” “She hasn’t told you, didn’t she?” “Told me what?” “About Sonnet 35” “What about Sonnet 35?” “We all asks her to become you friends and talk to you about helping us out. Sets the spirits of Rosalind Windcastle free” “Help you?” “Yes. By reading Sonnet 35, you will sets us free and won’t see any of us again” “Won’t see any of you?” “You were just the same as her. She’s already in love with you. No wonder why she didn’t tell you. Ha!ha!ha! but I’m not letting it. I want to be free,” The angry ghost starts throwing things again. Then, Kyle grabs her in the arm and say, “Calm down” She stares him deep in the eyes then led out a little sigh and say, “You were just like Howard. Exactly the same. You remind me of him. I just want to go away from here. I wanted to see Howard again,” “But I have to be departed from Rose” “You’re special Kyle. You give us the feeling once gain. You make the teenage Rose fall in love. And me, I’m the angry woman, but you’re able to calm me down. You’re special, Kyle” Kyle looks at the woman and say, “I will help you but I need time” The angry woman leaves Kyle. Kyle sits alone and beginning to cry. Then, he hears the whisper of Rose’s voice. “Kyle…” He turns to look at her. Then, she says, “I’m so sorry. I should have told you before it was too late” “I just want to be with you a little longer,” his voice fill with the tremble of his crying tears. “I don’t want to leave you,” she says. Kyle looks at her in the eye and say, “The moment we sing and dance is the moment that I will never forget,” They both cry in each other arms. Chapter 12 – The Love Story She changed me, Howard thinks while his mind racing, thinking of Rosalind Johannes. He had never met anyone like her before. Rosalind is his neighbor. He can sees her now. She is such a happy girl. Because of her, Howard now had purpose in his life. He wanted to be a rich man, he wanted to marry Rosalind, and he wanted her to be happy. She is too kind to let her disappointed. He never wants to see her cry. She is almost everything to him now and for her, he’s working so hard to achieve his dream in business industry. He watches Rosalind as she plays with her cat. He wanted to be with her so bad. Then, Rosalind turns to look at him. He doesn’t move at all and she smiles at him but he didn’t smiles back, he walks away from where he’s standing instead. He loves her so. He knew it. But now he’s just a teenage boy and he needs to grow up first and succeeds before he told her his love. Now, all he knows is he’s living in a place so far from Rosalind but the memory of her never erased inside his mind. He’s a rich man now. He should be getting married now and he is so much ready to tell Rosalind that he loves her then, now and forever is not enough. He knows everything about Rosalind even though they are far away. Because he cares so much about her and he promises himself that he’s going to meet her tonight. He’s going to tell her the truth of his feelings that he has kept for so long. Tonight is the night. Rosalind is walking at the town and Howard sees her from far. Howard is a cold man. If he thinks that a thing has to be done, he would just do it without complaint nor comment. He walks towards Rosalind and says, “Rosalind” Rosalind looks at him and she sense that she might knows the man, “Yes sir. Do I know you?” “Yes” he answers calmly. “Who are you?” “Howard… your neighbor” “Oh! When I was fifteen. I remember you. Wow! It’s great meeting you again. I can’t believe you still remember me” “Well, I do” They both are still talking while start walking. “Have you got any plan for tonight?” “… No. Why?” “… Let’s have dinner” He sounds so cold. Rosalind is never sure if he is serious then she says, “Really?” “Yes and I will be really pleased to see you there tonight” He points his hand at a restaurant. Rosalind says, “Sure!” There is music all around their table. Rosalind smiles at him and he smiles back. Then, Rosalind says, “I had never even once seen you smile before” “You make me smile. You teach me though I don’t know how. Somehow, you did,” Rosalind was somehow amaze by his words, “Me?” Howard nods then they talk about the past, about a granny who lives on the other side of the road that went looking for her cat everywhere, even in their house. They laugh about it. And then, Howard gaze into Rosalind eyes, “I got a secret to tell you” “About what?” “About someone I adore” “Tell me then” “There was a girl, she’s always smile. Until now, I can still hear her laughter. You know what? She’s everything to me. It feels like I can last a day without seeing her smile. She doesn’t know that. I love her since I was young. I do not know how could a man possibly smile alone, but she shows me that a man can… I used to watch her playing with her cat, you know. A white cat, Persians cat, I think. She’s so pretty. When she looked at me, she would smile. But I always didn’t smiled back. I just walk away. I really want to smile but I just don’t know how. Too bad,” Rosalind knows it. He’s talking about me, she thinks. Then, she smiles. She finds it so hard to believe what he is saying and she just can believe that now she feels the same way about him. She wonders alone, she always thinks that Howard is a nice man, but she finds him so hard to understand. She wanted to know him and now that she do, she just can’t help her feelings anymore. Then, Howard continues, “You know who she is, right? You know her too well. More to it, she likes this…” He takes a deep breath then says, “No more be grieved at that which thou hast done, roses have thorns and silver fountain mud, clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun, and loath some canker lives in sweetest bud. All men make faults and even I in this, authorizing thy trespass with compare, myself corrupting solving thy amiss, excusing thy sins more than thy sins are. For to thy sensual fault I bring in sense, thy adverse party is thy advocate, and ‘gainst myself a lawful plea commence, such civil war is in my love and hate. That I an accessory needs must be, to that sweet thief which sourly robs from me. Sonnet thirty five,” Rosalind is speechless. She had always loves the sonnet. She then sighs and says, “Howard…” Howard then says, “I love you Rosalind. And so much that is. Would you marry me?” “Howard?” “I am Howard Lucas Windcastle plea for some love from Rosalind Elizabeth Johannes. I’m ready and willing to give all of me if she would just agree to be my beloved wife,” Rosalind sighs and smiles while shaking her head unbelievably. “Do you, Rosalind Elizabeth Johannes willing to accept a sincere man named Howard Lucas Windcastle to be your man?” She watches him with a smile on her face and nods silently, “… I do” Chapter 13 – Jason What can I do to make Melissa forgive me? I had made a terrible mistake for excusing her going out with someone else. I love her so much. She is my number one among my other girlfriends. Where does this door lead? Let me check. Umm… What a dark room. Eh! There’s a stair. Is that something behind me? No one is here. Let me take this stair. One step. Two step. A few more steps, now I’m up. Oh! It’s an attic here. Let me see, what can I find here, huh?! What box is this? Old papers. Old pictures. This must be Sir Howard and Madam Rosalind Windcastle. Hey! What is this? Sonnet 35. “No more be grieved at that which thou hast done…” Ooh… it’s a really cool air at my ear. Why is everything a death silent? Who care? Let me continue this. “Roses have thorns and silver fountain mud,” Shit! It’s a real chill here, I better get the hell away from here. It really send a shiver down my spine; the stillness of the air. It’s a good sonnet to the use of beseeching Melissa. Chapter 14 – The Sonnet 35 “Where’s Jason?” Stanley asks while watching television. “I don’t know but I guess he feels a little sad that his Melissa angry with him,” Leigh-Vie answers. Kyle is staring outside the window while bumping his basketball. Suddenly, they hear heavy footsteps running down the stair. It’s Jason. “Hey guys! Listen up! I got something that I want to read to Melissa. Hmmmm… hear this… No more be grieved at that which thou hast done, roses have thorns and silver fountain mud…” Kyle stop bumping the ball. He turns to look at Jason who’s still continuing reading. “And loath some canker lives in sweetest bud-” “STOP!!” Kyle shouts. Everyone turn to look at Kyle. But Jason continues, “All men make faults and even I in this-” “I SAID STOP IT!” Kyle runs toward Jason and grab the paper away from him. Then, he tears the paper down into pieces. “What’s up with you?” Jason yells. He pushes Kyle a little then Kyle push him back. Jason got pissed off and pushes Kyle again. Kyle, too, pushes Jason hard. Jason loss his patience and so he pushes Kyle as hard as he can until Kyle fall to the floor. Then, Jason murmurs and walks away from there. Kyle doesn’t mind about Jason pushing him, just as long as Jason didn’t finishes reading the sonnet out loud. He doesn’t want to be departed from Rose. He just can’t let her go. He rather lives with hell lot of ghosts than lives separately with Rose and he knows that Rose feels the same way too. He gets up from where he fell. He can feels that the rest of the family are concern about what’s happening to him but what he should he tell them? Should he tell them that he’s in love? He’s in love with a ghost. No one would understand that. Suddenly, he hears Jason screams from inside the bathroom. He rushes to the bathroom. “Jason?” he sees him lying on the floor and got his head knocked on the floor. Then, he sees the angry ghost floating in the air. He ignores her and asks Jason, “Are you okay?” “I’m feeling fine” “I’m sorry…” “Me too!” They both smile together. When Kyle looks up again, the ghost is gone. “What are you doing? Are you trying to kill Jason?” Kyle asks the angry ghost. “You would never know how we would be without you” “I’m here,” “He might get rid of you” “He won’t, he’s my brother!” And he almost sets me apart from Rose, he thinks. Chapter 15 – Joseph I need to get away from here. I can tell that we are not alone here. There’s something else here. I can feel them. I always hear a woman cry while nobody cry. A baby’s sound while there’s no baby around. Stephanie has agreed about moving out of this place. I had asked everyone to pack but I don’t see Kyle packing. He was such a weird boy. I don’t know what’s up with him and I’m still wondering why he pisses off when Jason reads Sonnet 35. Is there anything that he hides? This father instinct of mine always says that he’s hiding something from everyone. Something that nobody could ever guess what is it. He is such a puzzle. 1,000,000 pieces. It is so uneasy to put them together. He really needs to be told to pack. Chapter 16 – The Whisper Goodbye “No wonder why, now I know why you don’t want to let him finish reading the sonnet,” says the angry ghost. “You don’t want to be separated from Rose,” Rose who is standing beside Kyle turns to look at Kyle. The sad woman then says while tears still in her eyes, “And now, all of you are moving out. How can we all be free?” “You need to read the sonnet right now, Kyle,” the pregnant widowed wife says. “You have to! Or else, I’ll kill the rest of your family and you know that I’m capable” the angry ghost says. “NO!” Kyle yells. He sighs then says, “All right, I will. I promise you. Just don’t hurt my family,” Rose looks down, tears almost fall from her eyes. “Leave me alone with Rose for a moment, please,” The rest of the ghosts disappear. “Oh my Rose, please don’t cry,” He whispers to her ear. “I love you Kyle” “I love you too. I never want to live far from you, if only I could” “But you have to. You just have to,” “I don’t want to,” “There’s got to be someone else who is much better than be,” Her English accent mixed with her crying voice then she continues, “Can you promise me one thing, Kyle?” “What?” “Promise me that you will find someone else who loves you more than I do,” “Rose…” “Promise me!” “… I promise…” Rose smiles then the hold each other tight. They hold each other as if they never want to let go. “Mom, dad, listen to me…” Kyle says at the living room while his family is packing up. “I got something to tell you… … I see ‘them’,” His family turns to look at him, confusion shows on each of everyone faces. “What?” Stanley asks. Kyle says, “There…” He points his hand to a corner of the room. “The angry woman. There…” He points at the door, “The sad crying woman. There…” He points his hand behind Vellette, “The happy young lady Rose” Then, he smiles to himself. He says, “I see ‘them’ all. ‘They’ are all around this room now. Waiting for me to sets them free. I’m always different from all of you. That’s why I’m pulling myself away. Just because you are not me. Since I was born, I’m always the freak. I kept too many secrets. But I’m telling you this now and I hope you understand,” “Kyle…” Joseph says. “I’m so scared. Scared if you will hate me because I’m different,” “No way, we love you, Kyle,” His mother says. “Look, just unpack. You don’t need to move from here,” He looks at Rose deep in the eye and takes a deep breath, “No more be grieved at that which thou hast done, roses have thorns and silver fountain mud, clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun, and loath some canker lives in sweetest bud. That I an accessory needs must be, to that sweet thief which sourly robs from me…” Tears fall from his eyes. The ghosts disappear one by one. A soft breeze touches his ear and he hear the sound of Rose’s voice that he really loves to hear, “Goodbye, Kyle…” “Rose…” He breaks down and cries on his knees. He cries, cries and cries. Chapter 17 – Kyle She always lives inside of me. She had teaches me everything. She teaches me everything that I don’t know. Every time I return to The Windcastle, I will remember her. I would never forget Rose. She teaches me life. Because of her, I had purpose in my life. I had made a promise. And I will keep it, no matter how hard it is. She always lives in the wind. Every time the wind touches my face, I feel her kissing lips and every time I suck the blowing wind, I fell her tongue. I can still feel her touch. I love my feelings when I’m with her. I will never forget. But I had made a promise. And I will keep it, no matter how hard it is. ~THE END~
