Ucw: The Story Of The Man, Part Three (10) “This may sound really bad at first Tony, but I can explain” pleaded Ben. “What? I don’t see no problem here?” Ben seemed puzzled for a moment as he sat in the kitchen with Tony, Amy and Rachael sitting near them in one group chat. “Rachael didn’t you tell him?” Tony looked over to his daughter with inquisitive eyes, “what don’t I know!” he said in a semi-playful voice. He had a towel over his bulked shoulder and a glass in his hand behind the marble counter, he looked like a behemoth barman. “Yeah, well, me and Ben are kinda seeing each other now”. Tony’s once playful face dropped, looked at Ben and chased after him with a glass of water. Both men ran around the house throwing water over each other. The two girls just sat back and laughed uncontrollably. With both hands planted on their stomachs, they just couldn’t stop laughing, as the house slowly became Atlantis. Amy had got her voice back now, even if it was extremely croaky and she gained a lisp pretty badly. Tony’s popularity as a wrestler, and as a new movie star skyrocketed through the roof; nothing seemed to be going wrong in the house of Sayers. Soon it will be the millennium and in Amy’s mind “there’s no better time to start fresh again”. The grave of their daughter laid gently in a nearby cemetery, non-stop since it happened Amy had visited it. She loved Rebecca too much, and everyday, it kills her not to have her child in the safety of a mother’s arms. After the big water joke had finished now, and the whole house dripped in liquid. Tony walked over to his wife, smiling at her. He placed both arms around her and both bodies were pressed against each other’s. Amy flicked back a streak of Tony’s wet hair. With one fail swoop both lips pressed in a passionate kiss. Nothing could be better. He woke up, sweating and exhausted. He looked over to the other side of the bed; it was all just a dream. The moonlight flickered through the window and rain poured heavily down beating on every surface it came in contact with. Sleep was unobtainable at the moment, like most nights. He walked down the stairs to the foyer of the estate. His beard had grown largely and he was becoming severely paranoid. As a solid stand, a single stream of light beamed through the window and showed half of his face to the world, but no one was watching. “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME, TORTURING ME WITH YOUR DEATH!!!” he shouted. The trees swayed in the wind, and the picture of a smiling Amy looked directly at her husband, the now widower. “I need to get out of here, I need to get my life back”, his bags were packed, and his car was unlocked, he had to get out, and find himself again. Date: November 14th 1999 Location: The Grip Training Centre All of UCW’s most outstanding wrestlers joined in the conference hall. Stephanie stood on a podium toward the front of the room, still flashy dressed as usual. Mosh, Ben, Big Daddy, The Wall, Ice Veins and even The Element were among the main entrees. The owner spoke “Right, The Man’s gone AWOL, we don’t know where he is, or where he’s headed, but we have Megalation in a week, and we have no champion, any suggestions?” The whole crowd of wrestlers looked at each other, they knew that Amy had died, she died about a month ago, and Tony had never been the same since. No one knew how she died, except for the 39-year-old Element. Everyone looked at him, it was a shock to know that he had gone, everyone thought that he could live without her. “Right guys, I aint gonna tell you, the press had a pretty good slump at it, so don’t ask okay?!” Stephanie spoke again with her typical angry and frustrated voice “Look, Megalation 35 is coming up soon okay? All of this years ratings flow on it, lets get a main event sorted out now!” yet again everyone looked to Element and Big Daddy, they were gods in this sport, both said this “I want to fight him”. The whole rooms sighed in almost disbelief, they would never expect a match of this proportion, Element vs. Daddy for the UCW Ultimate Championship. Now that would make one hell of a main event at the biggest stage of them all. Steph’s face said it all, “well, looks like we’ve got our main event!”. The two veterans looked round at each other and grinned; they had planned this match for a lot of time. Many thought that Big Daddy would be more worried and bothered about his son’s disappearance, but like he said to the rest of the staff “he’s old enough to look after himself”. Date: November 15th 1999 Location: AM/PM radio station “Welcome today to our morning show ladies and gentlemen, the latest news on the town, yes it’s true, at Megalation it will be The Element vs. Big Daddy, many people thought that a match of this amplitude would never hit the centre stage, but to talk to us today, number one contender for the UCW Ultimate championship, Big Daddy!!” the DJ completed his long entry speech, the typical big headed mid age local sensation to hit the streets. “Well thanks, and I would like to say, I am as well looking forward to Megalation, hopefully this main event will reach into the hall of fame” replied Colin, again stroking his beard. The two chatted on and on; Ben and Rachael listened on the radio. The new couple occupied themselves in the largely spent mansion owned by the unlikely marriage. “I’m annoyed Rachael, that main event was my chance to finally capture that Ultimate Title”. Ben looked down at the tiles on the floor, looking at his own reflection staring back at him. Rachael moved over toward him and comforted him with a soft arm around his muscled back. She tried to find the words to not only comfort her love, but also herself. Things hadn’t been good recently, life had just got worse ever since she wed, her mother died and her father had left without a trace, things weren’t turning out so well. “Look, there’s always next year, just keep on training eh?” He looked round to her, feeling in his skin the comforting words. He was lucky to have her, there was no doubt about that, but sometimes he thought as if he couldn’t supply her needs. They had only been married a month, but the marriage had never gotten off to a good start, at times like this he would turn to Tony, but he had buggered off, leaving everything in a mess behind him. Rachael felt like her parents didn’t care about her, Amy had died and she hated her for it, Tony had disappeared and she hated him for it. Times were hard but at least things couldn’t get any worse as it seemed. “Well Ben, look gorgeous you’ve still got shows to do, and your still at Megalation, you’ve got a shot for the heavyweight Championship against Mosh, isn’t that good enough?” Ben looked up, his eyes drifted and interlocked to hers. “At least I got you eh?” The two laughed a reassuring laugh, realising that without each other, they would be a living wreck by now. “I think I’m ready Ben, ready to tell you what happened that day…” Ben moved closer to her, consuming her in his arms in safety as she began to speak. “The night was dark, Dad and Mum just had a huge argument, they normally don’t, but y’know, all couples do sometimes, anyways, both had a lot to drink, mum had a lot, she was completely out her head, spitting stuff out like, “it’s not my fault Rebecca is dead!” all I could hear from my room was the door slam and Dad shouting stuff like “calm down, come back inside where it’s dry” Mum kept refusing, the drink pretty much fucked her head up, they both kept on walking down the stone driveway and after awhile I couldn’t see them anymore from my bedroom window, I needed to know what was happening so I went down stairs in my nighty and opened up the front door, the wind blew me back and I shivered badly, I could smell the faint stench of Mum’s alcohol. A walked outside holding the bottom of my clothes to stop it from drifting up, I walked slowly with every step sound being overcome with the sound of the cold wind. I could start to hear them again, Dad had quietened down, and Mum kept on getting louder. Before I knew it I was not far from the gate. Mum said she had enough of living a life without her daughter and didn’t want to live anymore. Dad said that she was getting paranoid and kept on saying that she still has him. Mum kept on getting more and more arrogant, saying stuff like “you don’t mean anything to me anymore, I want my child back” and that hit Dad pretty hard. He shouted back for the first time, I don’t know what he said; it sounded more like a manly scream. A light came from the road behind the gate, Mum jumped in front of the car, with no reason, and no remorse. I could hear the ripping of bone and muscle, in one fail swoop, Mum was taken from me, she had committed suicide. I turned my head away, Dad ran over to the body, so did the driver. I ran back into the house and pretended to be asleep. I cried, I couldn’t believe it, another one of my family had died, I couldn’t believe it. Dad didn’t come back until the morning, he came up to my bedroom and told me, we cried together for hours, that’s when I thought to myself, through all of this, I know my Dad won’t leave me alone, he won’t leave me like everyone else has, but look now, he doesn’t care at all, he’s left me, and your all I have now Ben, so please don’t leave me…” Ben looked to her and moved his lips closer to hers, a gentle kiss showed them, they were going to be there for each other, even if Tony wasn’t…. Date: 17th November 1999 Location: UCW conference hall “This is just plain preposterous, how can you do this to a company of this magnitude” Shouted Steph slowly becoming hysterical by the minute. “Look, I’m just a middleman, if you don’t get the new record for the amount of Television Viewers at Megalation then we have to terminate your contract with Sporting TV” Steph kept walking around the room almost making a trench in the floor, digging in her high heels into the expensive flooring. “But, this is just impossible, you know that we get 90% of our funding from you!!, we can’t carry on without that contract!” the middleman smiled an evil smile, he was winning this debate “that’s not our problem, just get those ratings, and the cash flow will continue, if not, it’s time for UCW to say good bye once and for all” “Shit shit shit shit shit, fuck fuck, what in the fucking hell are we going to do, we have never got higher ratings than last Megalation, and now we have no Man, there is no way that this Megalation will beat that record, not even this years main event isn’t good enough dammit!” Element took over control of the situation “right guys, we have no Tony okay? Lets get training and get the anticipation up in the few shows we got left, also, to increase viewers, we could have Megalation at the point of the millennium, gives us extra time to get this right, okay, lets get going now!!” Steph look at Element, this was going to be tough, they had no time to spare, where the hell is The Man when you need him… “My god, he’s fucking amazing, look at his physique Emma, when did he join?” asked the enquiring Gym member. Emma had shoulder length brown hair, dazzling eyes, and skin as silky as ever, she was the object of every English man’s love. “He joined a couple of days ago, hasn’t talked much, but I see what ya mean, I think I’ve seen him before though…” Emma was a well-known trainer in the art of martial arts and wrestling, best in the country, however did not like to watch the American flashy wrestling like UCW. It wasn’t her style; she liked to hit the topics core. “Why don’t you just go over there and talk to him” Emma shrugged her shoulders and started to walk over to the punch bag. The room filled with orange light from the windows in the ceiling and the walls. There were 5 fighters, tops, but the most impressive was the new member, content with slamming amazing moves and punching harshly at the bag. As she began to walk over, she expected for him to notice her, it didn’t happen. Like a crazed dog he battered away until his knuckles bled hard and left traces of the attack on the punch bag. He was wearing a silver coloured tank top and matching shorts, which read “The Man”. “Hello, I’m the owner, we haven’t had time to chat, my name is Emma Muddiman” she extended her hand out for the handshake. He had a grizzly beard, strong arms and a focused set of eyes. He carried on while talking to her, still not moving eye contact “I’m Tony Sayers” Emma had met this type of athlete before, cocky and big, but knew jack crap about real wrestling. “How about you and me, sparring in the ring, what ya say?” he finally stopped and stood up tall, he was about a foot taller than the sporting beauty. “I’ll take you on that” The two stepped into the ring, Tony kept silent and focused, all the other fighters put down their equipment and rushed to the edge of the ring. Emma moved forward, Tony through his shoulder forward and speared her, not to the full, just to show her who “The Man” was. As she hit the matt, the towel was thrown in; she had to admit that this man knew a lot more about wrestling than even she did. He picked her up and extended his hand. The partnership was renowned, now it was time to train. “Your simply amazing, your everything a wrestler needs, what’s your story?” everyone raced to the ring and sat down to listen to his story. “I used to be a professional wrestler for UCW, ex-champion, the best they said I was, I had the perfect life, no money troubles, a beautiful wife, a child and a reputation. Just a month ago I became a widower, so I decided to scrap professional wrestling and get back to the basics, to find myself once again” Emma became puzzled, she felt new feelings for this new person, she had never married, and had to admit, she fancied this new person, but she had to say something “look… why are you here, there’s nothing I can teach you here” Tony laughed as everyone else listened closely to his next line “I’m here to teach you guys!!!” In the team of learners, there was Emma, Matt “Mig” Hooper, Morgan “havoc” Rise, Des “annihilator” Osbourne, Tex “score” Gremio and John Honor. Mig was a big guy, with black hair, knew a lot about stand based wrestling, Havoc was bigger but definitely slower and based himself around power wrestling, he stood tall with bright red hair, not a guy to be easily messed with. Annihilator had short blond hair, shortest out of them all, not reaching 6 foot yet but could easily jump his way around the ring. Score was a basic Italian Cruiserweight, tall and thin, perfectly designed to bounce off every rope and turnbuckle in sight. He had long brown hair with red tips to finish. To finish the lot off, John Honor was an extremely big man, preferred matt based wrestling. He was bald but had a shifty beard just like Tony did. “This is the team”
