I,Am (3)

sense. Since, Mary was of Caucasian decent I,AM took form of a white male in his early thirties. Suddenly, I,AM let out a hideous roar of words, I,AM, I,AM, I,AM, and the windows in the whole entire house shattered, while the dead cold body of Mary lay in the bed, face pale from the rebirth. As I,AM walked down the stairs of the house trying to get to the front door, his steps were like sounds of thunder heard from a hilltop. I,AM was now immortal and human but more immortal than human. Ms.Rifkey, the next door neighbor was awakened by the screams of I,AM and called the police. She could actually see the shadow of I,AM walking through the house after the screaming had stopped. This is what made her call. But I,AM was not walking as if he was trying to get away, it was taking its time. The dispatch call went into the nine one-one call center, the address was reported, and the closest cops to the home, mobilized. Detective Zeiss was sleeping soundly when
he was paged nine one one by the dispatcher. Beep, beep, his pager rang out. Michael immediately jumped up grabbed his pager and pushed the button. He hesitated for a moment then grabbed the phone. "Detective Zeiss,"spoke the officer. "What's the problem," asked Zeiss? "Sir, Mary Reynolds,"stated the officer. "What about Miss Reynolds," he asked? "There is a disturbance at her home," replied the officer. "What," replied Michael? Michael slept ready to roll that night because he was so tired. He grabbed his car keys that were on the hook by the garage door, jumped in his car so fast it was almost like he never turned it off when he got home. Mary's home was approximately ten miles from his home. He could make it there in about ten minutes. Michael radioed the precinct that he was in route to the house and told them that he was in charge and not to proceed until he got there to monitor the situation.
Arriving at the home their were several squad cars
already positioned in a tactical set up. Michael pulled up by the curb and jumped out of the car. "You and you come with me," he ordered. Michael arrived at the door and paused for a minute. "Mary, Mary are you all right," he asked. There was no reply so Michael counted with his fingers to three and the officers and him bust into the house. Michael was first to enter, surveying the living room and dining room while the other two officers had his back on his left and right.
Suddenly, they looked up and there was I,AM walking towards the back door. "Freeze, freeze," hollered Michael. I,AM turned around with his eyes glowing green and gave a faint smile turning back and proceeding to the back door. His foot steps not to be considered running or walking left a trail of smokey imprints. It was sort of a galloping walk that could lead into a run. When I,AM grabbed the door knob to open the door, Detective Zeiss and the two officers opened fire.
Now, the reason I,AM open the door was because he was partially human, somewhere around five percent. As they opened fire the bullets went into I,AM, his green blood dripping to the floor. However, as the blood hit the floor it was drown back into his body and the bullets holes closed. This was done just as quickly as the bullets hit him. "Hold your fire," shouted Michael. They stood in astonishment for a minute, I,AM taking his time opening the door wide and jumped out of the doorway about fifty feet onto the hood of Mary's car smashing it into the floor of the car bursting the all four tires. Then, he proceeded to walk over the car until he reached the end demolishing the entire car as if it had been placed in the junk yard. Detective Zeiss ran out of the door behind I,AM and was shocked when he saw the once mid-size Taurus crushed beyond recognition. Detective Zeiss monitored the area looking for the entity, spotting him down the street on the other side
of the block standing there as if he was waiting on Michael. Michael took off running after him and the entity began to run. The chase lead them across the parking lot of an all night convenient store. Detective Zeiss fired a few shots, missing
I,AM, and hitting a light pole and a parked car. I,AM began to pick up the pace as he entered a cemetery. Michael stopped at the entrance to the cemetery to catch his breathe. I,AM slowed to a complete halt waiting for Michael. Michael reloaded and began his pursuit. "Got damn it I said freeze," shouted Michael. Through the grave yard he ran after the entity, covering a half block radius until he got closer to it. I,AM paused for a minute as he stood on the brick walk way which ran right into a line of trees. I,AM started to run and Michael took pursuit. "Stop, I said, stop Chicago Police," yelled Michael. As Michael ran behind him he could see that I,AM was not stopping and his angle would put him right in line with the
trees.
Suddenly, I,AM was approximately five feet from the first tree and not stopping. Michael closed one eye trying to brace himself for the collision. You would think that a person
would run around the trees. But I,AM not being a person ran right through the tree like it wasn't there. Boom! It was like an explosion had occurred. Michael stood in amazement for a moment, then proceeded to chase after I,AM thinking he was just seeing things. Another tree placed itself in the path of the force and again. Boom! I,AM ran right through it. Michael let off some rounds from his nine, emptying the clip but I,AM kept to its mission of escape. I, AM destroyed all the trees that laid in its course and Michael was astonished all evening at what he had witnessed. "Detective, detective," radioed the helicopter that was beaming its lights down on the spectacle. "Are you all right, sir." Michael grabbed the radio from his
side and answered, "yes I am all right." "Did you see which way that thing went," Detective Zeiss being out of breathe asked? "No sir," replied the pilot. But you are not going to believe this sir. "What", asked Michael? From where you are
standing and from our view from up here the graves are spelling out the word I,AM. Michael spent around in a three hundred degree circle placing himself in some what of a dizzy state. The helicopter flew away and, Michael proceeded to the entrance of the cemetery where many squad cars were awaiting. The Captain was the first to approach him. "Michael what happened here," asked the Captain? "It was the suspect that murdered that women," sir. "Its not human sir, its not human," spoke Michael as he walked slowly to his car. "All
right, lock this place down," spoke the Captain. "Michael I want to see you in my office in the morning, so go home and get some rest," spoke the Captain. Michael nodded his head as
he walked to his car and pulled off.
Meanwhile, Michael's brother lay in the shadows gazing upon the destruction I,AM caused, keeping a steady eye out for his brother. "The time will come I,AM when we will encounter
each other," uttered from the lips of Kumhuma. Yellow tape overlay the front entrance to the cemetery and skid marks of several squad cars cascaded the street. The Captain was the last to leave the scene, but not by himself he would have an unwanted companion.
As the Captains wheels sped out, there was a strange occurrence in the streets. There was paper that whispered across the intersections in slow motion, the leaves blew profuse making violin sounds, and a black spiritualistic cat that eyes glowed green wondered the sidewalk in search of nourishment. Its claws scraping the ground making a profound heart wrenching noise defacing the smooth ground with its
immersed claws and the sound of the cemeteries disturbed souls filled the nights air. Kumhuma in the shadows stood, barefoot with a brownish overcoat, with its collar up to obstruct any view of his face proceeded to walk across the street walking past a street light post. The glow from the
light post intimidated the darkness over a bus stop sign next to Kumhuma, then as the street light fluttered off and on, Kumhuma suddenly vanished.
The next morning Detective Zeiss arrived at the Captain's door and knocked. The Captain waved him in, "Sit down Detective, there is one woman dead and a cemetery torn to bits," spoke the Captain. Michael started to talk, but the Captain waved him off. "In your report you stated, that it was a male white man about six-foot in height, weighing approximately two hundred to two hundred and twenty pounds," asked the Captain. "You also state, that he had silver hair down
his back and had green eyes," stated the Captain. "Do you mean green contacts," asked the Captain? "No," replied Detective Zeiss. "I mean green glowing eyes," answered Detective Zeiss. The Captain in a solemn voice said, "humh."
"Now the incident in the cemetery, you stated in your
report, that this man ran through trees and bullets could not stop him," asked the Captain. "That is correct sir," replied Michael. "I think you have been working to hard Michael," spoke the Captain. Michael realizing what the Captains next words were going to be. "This is my case sir, don't take me off of it," shouted Michael. Pausing for a minute the Captain said, "in your report you also stated that it was not of this earth." "What did you mean by that," asked the Captain? "Sir, I meant for a man to take that much fire power like he did in the house and in the cemetery, as well as the destruction to the cemetery, he could not be from this earth," answered Michael.
"He dressed like a man, he had the facial features of a man, but not the soul of a man," spoke Michael. At that moment an officer knocked on the door. "There is a man fitting the description of Detective Zeiss's suspect seen going into the Water tower downtown," spoke the officer. Detective Zeiss
jumped up, looked at the Captain for the go ahead. The Captain nodded his head and Michael was out the door and down the stairs to his car unknowing to him that it was blocked by a garbage truck. When Michael left, the Captain asked Dr. Ann Wells to come in to his office, he was worried about Michael. Dr. Wells walked in to the office. "Captain you wanted to see me, asked the doctor." "Yes, I want you to conduct a psychiatric evaluation on Detective Zeiss. " What do you think, your top Detective is crazy, asked the doctor?" "Well doctor, either he's crazy or what he is saying about this suspect is true," answered the Captain. "But is he crazy Captain," asked
the doctor? "No, he is not," replied the Captain. Shouting, with a look of despair on his face. "I would still like to meet with him tomorrow at eleven in my office," asked the doctor. "Sure, sure," answered the Captain. After the Captain's conversation with the doctor, he prepared to visit the scene also.
Now, down in the alley Michael, upset about the truck blocking him, pounded on the steering wheel and hollered out of the window. Move this truck! As seconds ticked away, the truck moved, and Detective Zeiss was in route, radioing to all cars in route not to apprehend him until he got there. The S.W.A.T team and other officers were gong-ho and wanted to apprehend him. Blatantly dishonoring Detective Zeiss's orders who was in charge. Detective Zeiss made it to the Water Tower and the S.W.A.T team had already went in to the building. "Who gave the order to go in," shouted Detective Zeiss?
Suddenly, the entire S.W.A.T team was thrown through
the glass windows out on to the sidewalk. "Get these men out of here," shouted Michael. Michael, grabbed both of his nine millimeters and ran into the building. The security force was down and customers were hiding any where they could. "Stay down, stay down," ordered Detective Zeiss to the customers
and employees. While Michael surveyed the area, I,AM made its way to the top of the roof, leaving dead bodies and terrified people behind him. Bones, flesh, and bodies covered the floors of this up scale shopping spot. Zeiss was right behind I,AM taking the elevator to the roof. Making it to the roof, Michael took a deep breath, and by that time Michigan Ave. In its entirety was cascaded with squad cars, including the Captain's car. As Michael kicked the door open that led outside on to the roof. I,AM was squatting down on the edge , staring out into space. "Freeze," shouted Michael! I,AM raised, with eyes glowing turning to the Detective. Michael began to fire
shots while running towards the entity. I,AM fell over the edge and Michael thought that was the end of it. Slowly moving towards the edge and peeping over, there to his surprise was I,AM hovering in the air. I,AM spoke and said, "you will not die yet." Zeiss took one more shot dead center and instantly I,AM
disappeared leaving only its black jump suit and boots behind. Michael watched as I,AM's clothes floated one hundred floors down to the ground in front of the entire police force. The wind was not blowing very hard that day, because if it had the cloths probably would have landed in Lake Michigan. During the time it took the floating clothes to hit the ground. The Captain had made his way in to building and up to the roof. As the clothes and boots lay their in front of the entire police department their guns were drown and ready to fire. Suddenly, I,AM began to resurrect, right in front of everyone. An officer in charge while the Captain and Detective
Zeiss were in the building radioed and said, that the suspect is alive, open fire. The officers were paralyzed for a moment and then the shots rang out. Detective Zeiss, the Captain, and other officers raced down to the front entrance of the building, but they were to late. I,AM had waved his hand and all of the
bullets fired at him were reflected back at them with pure accuracy. In the few minutes it took Zeiss, the Captain, and other officers to get down to join there fellow officers. One hundred police officers wives were widowed and I,AM was gone. The scene was horrible. Bodies were everywhere and all Michael could do was bow his head in despair. "Do you believe me now Captain," asked Michael. The Captain being a realistic person stated, "I do not know Michael." "Well, Captain you need to start believing," replied Michael. Michael left and went home to his wife, emotionally and physically drained from the incident of that day. The Captain was the last one to
pull off from the scene again, making sure all the t's were crossed and the i's were dotted.
Now, the Captain was a very observing man due to the society in which he lived. But this would not be enough to altar the rest of the ten minutes of life he had. Actually, even
if he had seen I,AM coming, his failure to live could still be justified. Due to the fact that his faith in God could not righteously relate to a fragment of tree bark. While the Captain traveled down South street, coming to the intersection of Maple ave and South Street.
Suddenly, a greenish oval shaped ball gyrated out into the street. The sidewalks were empty and all the Captain could see is the glimmer from department stores neon lights fixated in their windows. Strangely enough the ball rolled right in front of the Captain's squad car and stopped. It rested on the edge of a deep indentation in the street that slanted downward
to a raised sewer lid next to the curb. The Captain stared at the object for about forty seconds and then reached for the door handle. The driver side door made a slight squeaking sound as he opened it, putting his left leg out the door first. With several slight pull-ups on the rolled down window, he
boosted himself up to a standing position. His eagle eyes sur
veyed the area for a possible answer to this strange situation. The keys were in the ignition and the car was running as he made his way to the front of the car, again checking the surrounding area as he bent over to retrieve the greenish ball. As he reached out with his right hand, a couple of inches from almost touching the ball it suddenly disappeared. This startled the Captain making him fall back lading on his posterior, still staring at the spot the ball used to be in. His attention focused away from the ball and directed it on his squad car, he could see a figure sitting in the drivers seat. As
he tried to stand his feet and hands were somehow affixed to the ground making him fall back, again hitting his head on the cold hard pavement. I,AM pressed down on the accelerator, compelling it to its highest limit of 180 miles per hours while still in park. The Captain slowly regained his equilibrium.
"What is it you want," asked the Captain. "What do you want I said," screamed the Captain." Within seconds of the silent question and answer period between I,AM and the Captain, the Captain's hands became unhampered. Quickly reaching for his Glock semi-automatic that was snapped in his shoulder holster. "Fuck you, fuck you" screamed the Captain as he let off nine rounds from his nine millimeter which began I,AM's racing career if he wanted one.
"Click, Click, Click" was the sound of the gears shifting from park, to reverse, to neutral, and finally to drive. I,AM struck the Captain with so much force that as the front bumper
struck the Captain's head, it detached from the Captains body and rolled into the left lane of South street. Obviously, other hit and run drivers would run over the person once and drive away. However, I,AM placed the car in reverse and struck the Captain again, going on for about ten minutes, back and forth.
Meanwhile, a couple who were driving pass, going North on South street in their car. Noticed the Captain's car but did not see the body under the car due to the fact that the pressure of the car had smashed the Captain into the ground. As the couple got to the side of the Captain's vehicle they could see I, AM in the car with his eyes glowing green. Even though, they were frightened the couple were the ones who notified the police from there cell phone when they passed the gas station three blocks from the scene. Maybe they would not have waited to notify the authorities if they had seen the Captain's head laying next to the curve in front of Jill's flower shop.
They explained that it was strange to see a car going forward and backward at that time of night or at any other time for that matter. "Plus the man in the car had green eyes," stated the couple. This was the statement given over the phone to the authorities. Back into park the Captain's squad car went. I,AM was finished, showing no mercy towards the Captain. The door opened and I,AM exited the vehicle, leaving the door open, sauntering into the night.

CHAPTER FIVE

PRESENCE UPON ME

The next morning, Detective Zeiss awoke and walked down stairs to the beauty of his wife's face. She was preparing breakfast, while watching the morning news on their nineteen inch Panasonic color television, positioned over in the corner by the refrigerator. "Morning baby" spoke Michael, giving her a strong hug. "Good morning to you baby," replied Sarah. Michael sat in his favorite breakfast chair and grabbed the morning newspaper that's delivered to his house every morning around six- thirty. Michael began to remove the rubber band that surrounded the paper and started to unravel it.
Suddenly, a special news report broke through on a commercial break on the television. The Captains face was plastered all across the t.v. screen. Michael, stunned for a moment , moved closer to the t.v., turning the volume up to its highest level. His wife, Sarah stood in amazement behind him, and to his right. Diana Summers, the morning news reporter had the story. "I am standing in front of the scene of a brutal murder, by someone with devilish, inhuman, brain patterns,
here to the left of me," she spoke. As she pointed to the coroners careful removal of the remains of the Captain.
Suddenly, out of nowhere a voice came, "There's no head,
where's the head" shouted a young coroner on the scene? Well, as you, the viewers have heard, the Captain has been decapitated, reported Ms. Summers looking terry eyed in the camera. " "I found it, bellowed from across the street a young police officer new to the force who was shacking out of control with fear." Diana's television team quickly started out for the close up. The on- lookers screamed as they got a small glimpse at the decapitated head. Detectives, police, and coroners hastened over to help the young officers as the crowd began to converge on the head. "Everybody stand back", "everybody stand back", ordered all the officers. As the officers tried to do there job, Diana turned back to the camera, and announced that this was the worst murder scene she has
ever reported on. "This is Diana Summers from South and Maple where this tragic murder has occurred." "I have to get to work, why didn't anyone call me," yelled Michael.
Suddenly, at that instant in his thoughts, the phone rung. "Hello, hello", spoke Michael in a very rude and emotional voice. From the other end of the receiver came the words, I, AM. Michael pulled the phone from his ear and looked upon his wife with fear in his eyes. "What's wrong baby," she asked? Its I,AM the entity. As Michael held the phone out from his body, Sarah grabbed the receiver. "Hello, Hello", she spoke. "When dialing a number out of your area code , please dial six, five, and two first, hang up and try again," spoke the automated telephone system. Sarah looked at the phone and spoke. "Baby, why would the operator say we have to dial six-fifty two area code when we did not dial a number. "Lock the doors baby, I have to get to the station", demanded Michael.
Michael rushed out of the front door of his home and jumped into his car, burning rubber out of the driveway. As Michael looked out of his rear view mirror, and saw I,AM in the street, at least that was what Michael thought he saw. Michael jumped out of the car, his gun pulled and I,AM was gone. The next door neighbor and the neighbors across the street looked, as Michael a very calm person lost it. Michael got back into his car and drove off, well aware that it was I,AM who done this to the Captain. Michael crossed the intersection of Chicago at Wells, and the traffic had stopped completely. Half of his car was still protruding into the intersection and to his left there was a homeless streetwise newspaper sales person sitting on a fire hydrant. A few steps to the side of the salesperson there was a woman and her three kids standing on the bus stop. Directly to his right there was a card game, like the one's you see in New York with a crowd of people standing around it. As
the traffic began to move, Michael decided to turn on the sirens to make them move faster, making them part like the red sea. Soon after, Michael was almost to the precinct, so he decided to turn off the sirens due to respecting other motorist because he was not actually racing to a call. As Michael
paused for a moment waiting for the light to turn green, a car pulled up beside him to his right. Frantic to get to the station he did not notice the car when it pulled along side of him. Michael reached for a cigarette that was locked in the glove compartment, hearing the voice of the human formed entity saying I,AM as his head was down. Looking up slowly, to his amazement there in the other drivers seat of that car was him, the image or figure in that car looked like Michael. Michael jumped because of the unbelievable thing he had just saw. The figure turned slowly and looked at Michael, Michael immediately pulled his gun and pointed it at the figure.
Suddenly, the Michael look alike vanished and in his place was an elderly man around seventy two years old wearing bifocals. The old man looked over at Michael screaming louder than any elderly person in existence. Michael lowered his weapon, dropped it on the passenger seat next to him, and grabbed his forehead with both hands. Cars were blowing there horns at Michael and a man in a car in back of him yelled, move it. Michael finally snapped out of this dramatic, horrifying, and psychopathic state of mind he was in.
Continuing to the station, Michael looked in every direction, trying to spot I,AM, but there was nothing. He pulled up in front of the station around 7:30 that morning. As he put his car in park, he became sluggish, and finally dosing off in the car laying his head on the steering wheel. Michael dove deeper into a dream state, seeing visions of his brother, Kumhuma viewing the journey his brother took and also the cave in which Kumhuma found the Golden Stroll, the Lance of Transgression, and the Untouchable Water. "Mike, Mike," one of the other Detective said as he tried to wake Michael up. "What, what," replied Michael looking around in a state of confusion. Once Michael regained his composure, he stepped out of the car. "Are you all right Mike," asked the other detective. "Yeah, yeah I'll be find," replied Michael. "You sure," asked the detective? "I'm sure," answered Michael. Michael climbed the six steps to the front doors of the precinct and looked back. As the Detective who woke Michael up crossed the street, entering the alley, the detective turned from a Detective in plain clothes to the felon I,AM. Michael shut his eyes for a moment trying to get his vision corrected thinking it was the sun shining in his eyes that made him hallucinate. However, as he opened his eyes I,AM was gone.
Michael proceeded to the second floor where the
Detective's worked. Michael reached the front desk, and Dr. Ann Wells met him with a piece of paper swaying in her hand. "This is for you sir," spoke Wells. Michael reached for it and took the paper from her hand. "Detective this paper states that you have to come in today for a psychiatric evaluation at eleven a.m., your Captain knew about this meeting," stated Ms. Wells. "The Captains dead, and you are giving me a piece of paper," shouted Michael. "I told the Captain what this thing was, but he did not want to listen," stated Michael. "Why didn't he listen doctor," asked Michael? Dr. Wells looked at Michael as if he had the plague. "I'm sorry about the Captain, I know how much he meant to you," spoke Wells. "Nevertheless, Michael we have to be concerned about you," stated Wells. "Am I suspended," asked Michael? "No, no, no Michael I just want to make sure you are all right," replied the doctor. The entire Detective department had stopped doing what they were doing
to listen to the conversation. After the opened eared meeting with the doctor in the mist of the entire police force ended, Michael walked into the Captain's office, slammed the door, and stayed in the office for about three hours. Finally, he opened the door and yelled do we have any leads on the death of the Captain. Michael was Chief Detective and everyone usually moved when he asked for something. But this time everyone stared at the television monitor they had in the station. There was a report of a man that fit I,AM's description at the bucking ham fountain causing a disturbance of some sort. Michael took off for the stairs not thinking that he had a eleven a.m. meeting with Dr. Wells.
