Sneak Out (3)
Jodie Brown

“Look, Gina, will you just leave it? It doesn’t bother me why is it bothering you?” Tee said sourly.
“I am trying to help”
“Maybe I don’t need it!” Tee shouted pulling away from Gina. He walked away and Gina followed. They had almost reached the pond. Tee looked at the bench next to the pond and in his mind he saw Gene sitting on the bench throwing fish food into the pond. Tee stopped and stood completely still. Gina stood by his side and new instantly what was wrong.
“Come on Tee lets go…” She took his hand and tried to pull him towards the bench but he shook his head.
“I can’t”
“Yeah. Course you can!”
“I can’t”
“Come on Tee”
“Didn’t you hear me? I said I can’t!” Tee shouted at her. She let go of his hand and took a step back. She decided to change the subject.
“I think you should try and avoid Josh at school.”
“Why?” Tee asked.
“So neither of you gets hurt.”
“Neither of us?”
“I’m just saying…if he starts again just walk away.”
“Why should I?”
“I don’t want to see you two fighting!”
“Oh so its not just me? You don’t want to see Josh in a fight either”
“No”
“Gina he insulted me…and Gene.”
“So?”
“You care about him don’t you? Why? He is scum”
“Too you maybe.”
“But why?”
“Because I do!” Gina shouted, “Why can’t you take that in? Oh so just because your brother croaked you expect that the only guy I care about is you! Well I’m telling you this now I do care about Josh!” She turned away from Tee and ran back through the grounds, around the house and through the gates.
Tee stood completely still staring at the pond and the bench. He turned slowly and walked back to the house. He decided he would sneak out tonight and meet his friends at the skate park, he would apologise to Gina then.
At 10:00pm he went to his window and climbed out onto the conservatory he took his usual route out of the grounds and to the skate park.
He walked into the skate park and instantly heard the sound of laughter. He ran his hand through his hair to mess it up a bit more. The laughter was coming from the bottom of the half pipe he walked around it and was just about to walk into the centre when something he saw made him want to pull out his heart because of the pain it made him feel.
Gina was there, sitting on Josh’s lap his arms were around her waist and she was kissing his neck and laughing gently. Her eyes widened as Tee rounded the corner and walked across the bottom of the half pipe he took her waist and pulled her off of Josh, he took the back of her neck and pulled her head up to his face. “Caught you” he growled before letting her fall to the floor.
“Oi you can’t treat a girl like that!” Rocket shouted. He came over and helped Gina up. Tee looked down at Josh his eyes full of hate, Josh jumped to his feet. Tee clenched his fist and then sent it hurling into Josh’s face. Josh went flying backwards and fell to the ground.
“Just cause your brother wanted my brothers girlfriend doesn’t mean you can have mine!” Tee shouted. Josh sat up rubbing his jaw.
“Who said I went for her? I’m not like my brother…I’m better than him. Which is why your girlfriend loves me where as, Alice never liked my brother.” he said sourly.
“Shut up!” Tee shouted. He kicked Josh in the side, Josh grunted.
“You see spock that’s difference between you and your brother. Gene could hang on to his girls.” Josh shouted back. Tee went to punch him again but Rocket grabbed him from behind. Tee struggled but Rockets hold was strong. Rocket through Tee to the ground.
“Get out of here. You’re not stable enough to be around us!” Rocket shouted. Tee got to his feet and walked out of the park. He ran down five different streets until stopping at a wall.
“What Have I done to deserve this!?” He shouted into the night “You said you would be there. I could always talk to you! But where are you now, Gene? Where are you?” Tears flowed freely down his face. He whispered “Dead” and punched the wall. “Dead!” he shouted, punching the wall again. He punched it with his other fist. Blood trickled down the wall and ran over his hands. He walked slowly back to his house and climbed back through his window. Once in his room he flicked on the light and examined the back of his hands. Each of his knuckles were practically gone the bone could be seen on one of the knuckles on his right hand. He went to his draw and took out an old t-shirt he ripped it into long strips and wrapped his hands.
Tee stripped to his boxers and got into bed. He closed his eyes not wanting to wake up in the morning.

Chapter seven

Tee was walking down the corridor to Gene’s room. He knew something was going on in there and he needed to find out what, but he couldn’t seem to move fast enough. It seemed to take five minutes to take 1 step. He heard a muffled cry of pain coming from the room. “Gene!” he shouted. He took another step. Finally he was in front of Gene’s door. He took the handle but he couldn’t open it. He looked through the keyhole and saw Gene lying on the floor covered in blood his eyes closed. Someone walked across the room and jumped out the window a metal bar on his back smothered in Gene’s blood. “Tee!” Gene cried out, his eyes snapped open, “Tee quick if you get here now you can save me.” Tee rattled the door but however hard he tried it wouldn’t budge. “TEE its all your fault. It is too late.” Gene’s eyes closed and as Tee began to cry Gene’s face morphed into Josh’s “Hay spock, looks like I win again. Your too late Tee. Way too late.” Tee looked behind him and saw Gene standing there holding a gun. “What are you doing?” Tee asked.
“Mum and dad like me better they are wasting their time on you.” Gene pulled the trigger.

Tee sat up, his cheeks damp. Just a dream he told himself. It was still dark outside. Tee thought back over the last few weeks and let tears flow freely from his eyes. There was nothing left for him. He had lost Gina, He had lost his friends, his parents didn’t love him and his brother was dead.
Tee needed to talk to someone; he needed to get it all out. But the only person he could ever talk to was far away.
He walked out of his room and padded silently down the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and opened a draw. He took out the biggest and sharpest knife he could find and walked slowly back up to his room. He sat cross-legged on the bed and examined the knife. He held it up to his own throat then took it away. He pressed his finger against the tip and nearly cried out when it sunk deep into his finger. He pulled it out again. I could join Gene right now. Then I would be able to talk to him. He thought holding the knife to his chest. One sharp push He closed his eyes and pictured Gene. “No one cares about me in this life anymore, if I die no one will notice” he muttered.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” said an all to familiar voice. Tee opened his eyes.
Gene was sitting on the end of his bed.

Chapter eight

“Gene?”
“That’s me. I said I’d be there for you so here I am!” Gene said. It didn’t make sense.
“How? Your just a figment of my imagination!”
“Tee, don’t be so childish. Now don’t freak, It is me. Gene. Tee. Can’t you see that? I’m a ghost”
“But ghosts are white. And…and see through.” Tee stuttered. To this Gene got up walked around the bed and stood right next to Tee. He reached out with one hand and clipped his younger brother round the ear.
“What have I told you about being stereo-typical? Then again I suppose you are being a bit emo.” Gene smiled.
“If you’re a ghost then how come you can touch me?” Tee said. “And I am not emo.”
Gene picked up the knife and held it up for Gene to see. “If this isn’t emo I don’t know what is! But I suppose at least you didn’t try and cut yourself” Gene run the knife across his wrist. But nothing happened, no blood, no mark, nothing. “Look. I can only be seen if I want people to see me. I can only be heard if I want to be and I can only pick up things and hit people if I want to. Understand?” Tee nodded slowly.
“Does that mean I can have a hug?” Tee asked. Gene smiled again.
“Come here spock.” He said. Tee got to his feet and ran into his brother’s arms.
“I thought I could leave you. I thought you would handle my death well. I thought I’d be able to move on. And I was going to. Until I saw the way you reacted when that policewoman tried to take my body from you. So I decided to stick around and wait till you got over it before I left. You have no idea how hard it was for me not to hit Josh, and when you were punching that wall I wanted to hug you. I wanted to let you know that someone did care about you. I cared about you. I want you to know, I will always be here whether you can see me or not, as long as you need me I will be here.” He said all this with his arms wrapped tightly around his younger brother. “Hay, hay, hay!” Gene exclaimed he took Tee’s shoulders and held him away from him “What you crying at Spock? I’m here, I can sort this out.”
“Gene I am glad your back, but to be honest” Tee walked away from Gene and sat on his bed, it was the first time he had really got a chance to look at Gene since he had arrived. He was wearing the same clothes as on the day he died, His skin was a bit paler and Tee smiled as he noticed the cigarette in Genes hand, he continued “ My life, it is a mess!”
“Not as much as you think Tee” Gene strolled over to the armchair in the corner of Tee’s room and sat down. “Now you get some sleep.”
“No because then I will wake up and you won’t be here, this will have been a dream.”
“I will be here, now stop being such a stubborn git and get into bed!”
Tee smiled, just as he remembered him. He got into bed and was asleep within minutes.
Gene’s ghost took a pull from his cigarette and slowly dematerialised.
Gene walked along a street that he knew all too well. He stopped outside Alice’s house looking up at the window above the porch. He could have just walked through the wall but for old times sake he walked over to the porch and reached up taking hold of the porch roof. He pulled himself up and swung a leg over, He stood outside the window peering in. At this point he would usually knock on the window, but he had been alive then. So he just walked through.
He found him self at the end of Alice’s bed, he walked around it not taking his eyes off of the sleeping Alice. He wanted to feel her skin again; she was one of the people, after Tee, who he missed most. It was good to once again hold his brother in his arms but the worst thing was he hadn’t felt a thing. He had lost all sense of touch and smell.
He would give anything to be able to feel Alice’s skin or smell Tee’s hair again. He sat on the floor next to Alice’s bed and watched her sleep until the sun rose. When Alice started to wake up Gene decided to leave. He didn’t want to accidentally show himself again. It had been a mistake to show himself to Tee. Gene had promised himself that he would let Tee get over his death on his own but if he had let Tee kill himself he would have never forgiven himself. He slowly dematerialised.

Chapter nine

Gene walked along side Tee on the way to his first day back at his high school for a year. Obviously no one would see him but he would see them. “ Don’t talk to me when people are in hearing range. All I can do is give you tips, but if you get in a fight I can’t help you out ok?” Gene said. They walked through the school gates and Tee nodded.
They reached the hard standing and Tee automatically reached up and scruffed up his hair. He walked up to their usual benches and he sat next to Chase. He just looked away and carried on talking to Blake. Tee noticed that Gina wasn’t sitting with them. “Hay guys!” Tee said cheerfully.
“Look it talks” Rocket snarled. Tee noticed Gene sit on the floor beside him.
“Look guys. I am really sorry about the way I have been acting.” Tee said.
“Ye? Well you better tell that to Gina.” Sarah snarled. “You do know that Josh started kissing her first?” she finished sourly not even looking Tee in the eye.
“You didn’t have to blow your lid at Josh.” Chase put in.
“Did none of you guys hear what he said to me Monday?” Tee said with a hint of anger in his voice.
“Calm down, you won’t get anywhere if they know you are angry with them” Gene muttered. Tee took a deep breath to calm himself down.
“Yeah we heard and he didn’t say anything that bad.” Blake said just loud enough for everyone to hear. That was when it hit him. They didn’t hear what Josh had said to Tee about the death of his brother.
“Yeah I suppose your right. Maybe I did over react.” Tee admitted.
“I suppose that it was your first day back…you didn’t need Josh calling you Spock.” Blake said in his smooth quiet voice. The others turned away; at least he had one of them on his side.
At that moment the bell rang, Sarah, Rocket and Chase got to their feet and were in side in less than two minutes, Blake stood and it looked like, for a moment, he was going to go after them but he stayed and waited for Tee. Tee smiled up at Blake gratefully and Blake returned the smile.
Tee walked into his history classroom, Sarah and Rocket were sitting together on one two person table and Blake and Gina were sitting together on another, Josh and Chase were not in this History class, Tee sauntered to the back of the room and sat on a two person desk nobody sat next to him. He pulled the chair out for Gene to sit on. He sat down and ran his hands over the desk. Tee looked at what Gene was running his hand over, it was a heart carved out of the table with Gene <3 Felicity carved into it. “They don’t change these tables often do they?” Gene commented. Suddenly Blake came over and sat on Gene. Of course to him it had looked like an empty seat. Tee couldn’t suppressed a smile when Blake said “It is really cold over here isn’t it?”
“Why are you sitting with me?” Tee asked.
“The others may think you acted a bit out of order but I can see now why you did what you did. I think. I mean if my sister died I think I would be irritable as well.” Blake said in his cool, soft voice.
“Won’t the others have a go at you?”
“I don’t care if they do. I like you, you are a great mate! In Those two weeks you had off school I realised that I actually like you better than that lot, they are right stiffs who think they have a right to act like snobs because they dress differently from the rest of the school. I can’t tell them anything!”
“And Gina? She is like that as well?”
“Why did you go out with her? A twat like her deserves a freak like Josh.” Blake’s voice had not risen in volume throughout the whole conversation. He used to have quite a squeaky voice until it broke. Now it was deep, soft and quiet.
At that moment Mr. Ryan walked into the room and the conversation died down. He sat at his desk and began to take the register.
Two hours later Tee walked out of school and onto the hard standing closely followed by Gene. He headed towards the normal benches but was stopped when Josh stepped in front of him. “I can’t believe you are brave enough to show your face here. After what happened yesterday.” He muttered.
“Well obviously I am…unlike you. “ Tee replied sharply. Tee saw Josh’s fists clench.
“But if I get beat up I don’t scream like a pussy.”
“I do not scream. You wouldn’t even know if I did. So far I have been the one packing all the punches.”
“Not you. Your brother. I heard he screamed like a girl when a metal pole was brought down on his back, again and again and again” Josh whispered menacingly. Tee heard Gene mutter something.
“In your dreams” Tee said taking a step closer to Josh. A hand came down on Tee’s shoulder he looked around to find Blake standing there. He noticed Gene smile.
“Shut up Josh. I don’t like braggers” Blake said even in a voice as quite as his Tee could hear the hate.
“I’ll get you when your boyfriend isn’t around to save your hide.” Josh warned.
“Funny that’s the second time this week you have threatened me.” Tee smiled. Josh turned and walked quickly away.
Even though Blake was the same height as Tee. He was well muscled and showed this off by wearing tight clothing. He wasn’t the most liked guy in the school. He had chin length dead straight bronze hair. His left eye was slightly deformed he hid this by growing one half of his fringe longer than the other to cover it up, his other eye was perfectly normal and was also brown. He had a rather small nose and thin lips, his hands were like spiders with long fingers spreading out from the palm his fingernails were painted red. He was very feminine; he liked wearing eye make up and bright clothing.
Blake and Tee walked over to their usual benches together and sat down opposite each other. Sitting next to Tee was Rocket and next to Blake was Chase.
Break time passed quickly and Tee soon found himself in his next lesson, maths, it would have been boring if it wasn’t for Gene making snide comments about what the teacher was saying. Tee had to hide behind his textbook to hide the smirk on his face.
Finally it was lunch; once again Tee sat at the usual benches and surprised everyone by taking a sandwich from his bag. He joined in the conversation and even managed to slide in a few things that made the others laugh. But 10 minutes before the end of lunch Gene tapped Tee on the shoulder and pointed out a group of 5 boys led by Josh, Gina at his side, heading towards them. Tee looked Gina up and down and realised…he was completely over her. “I knew this lunch time was to good to last” He said to the others alerting them of the boys approach. The 6 boys gathered around the benches.
