Summer
Kim H

Innocent laughter
It's so pure
Clean as fresh linen on the line
Mouths full of cold watermelon
The juice drips, drips down your chin
Washed by the rain
Of red hydrants exploding on the curb
Watercolor splashes of arms and legs and fingers and toes
Smiles of sunshine
Rays peak through missing teeth
Caught on the tongue
It tastes like southern mornings
Smells like grandma's marmalade
"You better run, chile'", she calls
"Midnight will come before you know it
Enjoy the fireworks while you can"
Yes, enjoy them while you can
