What Saved Me Katherine Smith
In the midst of the night she yearned for a word
Assertive in tone Soft to the ear
She would pray for a face, so she could then speak
Of a World that had forgotten her, and at night would only sleep.
Months swept by,
Still no response…
Was this the end, or a new beginning of love?
With this came an answer,
Only a mere week later
A man spoke and had cast his spell over her
Just as broken and torn from the web of life
Their words of courage, and hope
Had brought them together
A bond so compelling
Restraints were broken
Thousands of miles separated them
But they chose to keep on going
Hours of conversation
Until the phone had went dead
Whispers in the dark of the night
A plan formed between them
She had taken her earnings
And knew what had to be done
Love before material objects
Oh my, it‘s just begun.
He arrived one month later
No formal greeting was used
Open arms were finally there to embrace her
Then she knew
Only this man would she love
Time stood still
They both looked above
Praying to the Almighty Lord
For this was his doing
Thanking the Angels in Heaven
Who were smiling down upon them
This man had saved me,
He just cannot begin to comprehend
The first night alone
We reminisced over old conversations
Laughing and giggling, Under the Conditions we had met
Until he uttered a short sentence, That I will never Forget.
“You are my angel, You saved me in my time of need”
Blinking for a few moments.. A silence overcame me
“That night we had spoken, do you recall it well?”
I answer “Yes Darling, what is this all about?”
“That night I had contacted you, I was going insane
My world was crumbling
And I had intended to make the pain go away,
Gun in hand, I remember loading the bullets,
Recalling my miserable life,
Having no one to spend time with
When you began to speak
I had fallen so deep
Then was the breaking point,
I knew I wanted to live
You were the one,
The Only one who listened
How can you even thank me?
You are the Angel.”
At that moment I remember holding him close
Explaining to him, that no matter what, he matters most
I regaled him with my troubles, that had nearly sent me over the edge
He held me close to his heart, softly kissing my forehead
This man had intended to end his life
The very same night, I had tried to end mine
I had taken several pills
I was sure I would not wake
When drowsiness set in
I had signed into the computer
Hoping to catch a last conservation
Before Life’s Journey was over
There he appeared, he had taken over me
We spoke for hours on end
The pills refused to take me
Irony can sometimes be a beautiful thing
This man is my Angel,
He is what saved me
This was months ago
How does my story end?
Well..
He is Sleeping in my bed at the current moment
It’s now going on Three A.M.
Love never dies, no matter how far out of reach
Do not give up, no matter how hopeless it may seem
Take a deep breath,
Lay down and relax.
Your Angel is waiting for you
Follow your heart’s path.
