ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Larissa Marie is a pen name used by a teenage writer living in the United States of America. She writes songs, short stories, screenplays and poetry. Most of her songs and poems are dark and depressing, but a few shine with a glow only she can create using paper and pencil. Hidden in her glowing, doe eyes is sorrow and hurt that nobody sees unless they look closely, which close to none do. Larissa has put a 'shield' around herself to protect her from all the pain of the real world and so far none, save one, have broken through.

What Could Never Be (Sub-Title: Veteran's Wall)
Larissa Marie Smith

What could never be,
Was the love of you and me.
Blocked by many and all
Still you caught me every time I'd fall.
With shining eyes of grey,
To have you, each night I'd pray.
Every day I saw you,
But with it the fact I knew
That you'd never be mine.

What could never be,
And she came between you and me.
The five words she said
Made me want to fall down dead.
"You. Can. Never. Have. Him."
My bright green eyes went dim.
I crumpled to the ground
But she laughed, an evil sound,
And tears glistened in my eyes.

So I left it all behind
My only choice was one less kind.
Every time he hurt me,
I was blinded and I couldn't see.
One day I left him, too
And vainly searched for you.
They told me to give up
But I continued, nonstop,
Until that fateful day.

Tears flooded my eyes,
And inside I died.
My hand reached out slowly,
And ran my finger 'cross your name lovingly.
Hands settled on my shoulders
Each one heavy as a boulder.
I shook them off and stood,
Quickly running off into the wood,
Where I can't see the forest for the trees.
