Palpable, tangible, real
The lump, festering beneath the surface
A conjurer of obscene words
Cancer, tumour, chemotherapy….
The final word hangs silently on the lips
Sterile and white façade of control
Not an exact science we are told
The tock tick of the unreal clock
As you watch strangers for words to release your heart
The corridor becomes a metaphor for life
Operating theatre one end
The bright light on the other
Time stalls as your run through the motions of life
Inconclusive despite the machines
Wait for change, wait for the slow death
The hands stop, roll back, start it all again
Tick tock
