Blake introduced Carmen and Scarlett to his band.
"Hey, you guys were great tonight... well what i seen was," Scarlett said to them both.
"Just me, or all of us?" Taryn asked, laughing.
"All of you but you were cool too,"
"Thanks, but I know," he replied jokily.
By the time it was nearing midnight, they all felt like they had known each other forever, especially Blake and Scarlett. People were counting down now
"10... 9 ... 8... 7... 6..."
Scarlett looked around for someone to kiss (which wan't usually a hard job). Then she saw Taryn looking at her, almost longingly. She went over to where he was standing.
"5... 4... 3... 2... 1..." he said, half whispering. Then he kissed her softly.
"Happy new year," Scarlett murmured, when it was over.
"Happy new year," he replied, and kissed her again, pulling her close as Blake looked on.
Blake was trying to be happy for his friend, but he couldn't help but feel a little jealous.
"Awwww... don't they look cute?" Carmen nudged Blake, but seeing the dark look he gave her, she assumed the answer was no. "Ooh, I didn't think you were the jealous type!" she exclaimed.
Blake laughed. "I'm not, really," he said.
"I think he's got a crush," Mark teased, in a falsetto voice.
"No! Well maybe... I have a LITTLE thing for Scarlett DiMarco," Blake admitted, with his hands in the air.
Mark gasped. "You know her last name?!"
"Yeah, whats wrong with that?"
"Well I bet Taryn doesn't know it. How do you know it?"
"Well duh, she told me."
Suddenly, Taryn and Scarlett appeared at their side.
"Hey, guys, Scarlett's coming home with us, okay?" Taryn asked.
"Yeah, sure, she's cool," Blake replied.
Scarlett giggled and blushed as red as her name.
"So are we going now? Listening to these two is driving me mad!" Carmen asked.
"Yeah, 'kay. Had a few too many anyway!" Taryn agreed, slurring his words a little bit.
"Well I'll make sure you don't forget me in the morning," Scarlett replied.
Mark, Blake and Taryn shared a large house at the edge of town. As the door opened, Scarlett was surprised by the smell. While she'd expected a strong smell of aftershave, like in Jamie's bedroom (which she had once shared when she first moved into his home). But actually she was met by the smell of - well - carpets really, as they walked through the white panelled door, she thought.
She noticed a few birthday decorations littering the otherwise neat laminate flooring of the hallway. A few half-deflated balloons, a banner and some sparkly streamers.
"Oh is it someone's birthday?" she asked.
"Yeah, it was mine, actually," said Mark.
"Oh,happy birthday!" she exclaimed, just as Taryn crashed into her.
"Oops!" he laughed. "Didn't see you there!"
She was about to reply when Carmen turned to her."My mom just text me, and I have to go, but fill me in tomorrow, right?"
"Awwwwww... ok," Scarlett replied.
"Call me in the morning though,"
"Okie dokie, are you okay getting home?"
"Yeah, sure I'll get a late night taxi. See ya!"
And with that, she left.
