To My Uncle D
Katherine Smith

On June 16,2007 I had assumed my life was over.
Losing all form of stability both physically and emotionally
I felt no reason to continue breathing.
The only one who ever listened fell pray to his own insecurities and demons
And left me to die alone.

Oh how bitter the prospect of, "Life" became
The cold no longer chilled my flesh nor the Sun warm me
Where my heart use to lay, empty spaces filled me
No one could relate, no one understood, not even myself.
Two years ago, I was this being.

Currently Uncle D, I am happy.
I have removed myself from impossible situations
Eliminated those who doubted and ridiculed me
And surrounded myself with sarcasm, positivity, and the obvious negativity
In moderation of course..and I'm loving every minute of it.
I have a wonderful fiance' who is my new pain in the ass
And have rekindled my relationship with my father
As I knew you secretly wanted.

Courtesy of Demand Studios, I am a very successful free lance writer
And do not rely on others' for help.
Best of all, I feel you around me, so I no longer weep.
Honestly, I do not approve nor appreciate the pain you have caused us, your family
But respect your reasons and forgive your mistakes
As you would for me.

"What a beautiful poem with a beautiful message of forgiveness that I can tell was written from personal experience. You do a wonderful job of vividly articulating your emotions, allowing the reader to empathize, even if they never experienced that kind of pain. I am new to storymania and look forward to reading more of your poems!" -- Allison Nastoff.
"thank you so much, I truly appreciate that... You know it's amazing how we as humans view tragic events and how the information is processed. We grieve for ourselves before we grieve for the soul who committed the act without acknowledging our own selfishness. I understand that now, and the dust has settled. At sixteen you feel as though no one can relate...as if the path you're traveling was forever covered in woods and the only footsteps visible are your own. Then something changes; you grow, learn, and observe. You tend to listen more. You will find that Storymania is and has always been, you're best friend. This is a place where you will not be judged, you will be heard, and you will feel no pain after all is said and done. It's wonderful. The people, the stories, the experiences, are so touching...you just wish you could save them. I never wanted to be saved. But I was. This site became my emotional outlet, my confidant, my passion. Lol, I wish I hadn't have used a fake name though. At fourteen you fear sexual predators and whatnot. My real name is Kathryn Milner, and I welcome you. " -- Katy , pa, usa.
