The Sparrow M Q Walters
Watching from her cage,
Sees the sparrow fly away.
Nests there in the purple sage,
And in its cover her eggs lay.
The sparrow spread her wings,
Soaring up into the sky.
While the caged bird sings,
Watching the sparrow fly.
Wishing the cage door open,
So she too can fly away.
Out upon the welcome wind,
And into the sparkle of day.
Caged birds cannot fly,
Though beckons the sparrow call.
The caged bird wonders why,
As she spreads her wings to fall.

"This poem makes me wonder what kind of bird I am.Am I the caged bird that sits alone wishing it could fly? Or am I the bird that soars hi in the sky among the clouds.I guess there have been times in my life where I've felt like both.I like poems that make me wonder about things.Nice poem,Mattie, and I can't help but wonder what kind of bird do you feel like?" -- David D.
"Hmmm...I am the caged bird...always." -- mattie.
