Chapter Three

As the story continues... this boy is waiting in the hallways to be noticed...the bell rings, and he isn't. He leaves the school for the bus, very upset.

"Man, I only wish that this friendship will last, of all friendships I've had!" he exclaimed.

James walked down the hallway, and through the outside doors.
A few hours later, James returned home to find his mother sleeping on the couch.

"Uh, mom. Mom?"

"Yes, Jamie, what is it?"

"Can i ask you one question?"

"Sure, what is the question? I will do my very best to answer it."

"Well, my friend asked me to come over to his house to hang out. Am i allowed to?"

"Of course. What date did you have it set for?"

"Well, he thought maybe in about 2 days."

"Sure, I don't see why you can't hang out! Are you hanging out here, or are you going to his place?"

"Well, I'm probably going to his place. If anything changes, i will let you know."

"You sure will!"

Around this time, James was given the impression that this friendship would be a lengthy one; a friendship that he hoped would last a lifetime. For awhile it seemed true, as James and Josh would see each other everyday in the cafeteria. Most often, they would talk about funny things they said seen on TV the previous night. For awhile, the friendship remained close.

"Hey Josh."

"Oh, hey, James. How's it going?"

"Excellent, and yourself?"

"I am doing wonderful! So, is the hang-out still on for tonight? If not, we can arrange another time."

"Oh, I think the hang out would work just fine!"

"So we'll meet at the movies at 4:00, and then we'll walk to my place to place some WII. How about that?"

"Sounds good. I hope you can teach me how to play!"

"Of course!"

"Hey, Josh, there is one thing that i wanted to tell you."

"What is it?"

"Well, I'm autistic. I just wanted you to know; i just hoped that you would understand."

"Of course i do. My brother has autism. Why don't we talk about this tonight?"

"Sure! I'll talk to you later!"

"Bye James!"

It was at this point that the friendship had hit the top. They were going to set up a hang out that night. James felt excited; so much so that he began to flap his arms and rock in his chair as soon as he got home. His mother became worried, as soon as she saw his behavior.

"How do you even think you can behave at the movies?"

"I will, as long as i have a friend with me, i won't have any problems. I guarantee you!"

"I will let you go this time, but don't let your friend get the false impression that something else is happening."

"I won't, mom. See you later!"

"See you later! Tell me how it goes!"

James left his house, strolled down the road to the nearest bike trail, and ran ten minutes around it. By the time he made it to the movie theatre, his friend was standing there. He gave him a high five.

"Hey Josh!"

"Hey James!"

"Are you ready to see the movie?"

"Sure am!"

"Well let's go!"

They sat in the movie theatre, laughing manically as the comedic film got them closer together as friends. It wasn't until the next day that all of their fun and games would change. Josh would go on telling his other friends about James, but he never mentioned the autism. As he had promised James, he wouldn't do anything to hurt his feelings.

But it was also by this time that even James was getting the impression that the friendship wasn't going to work out. Try as he might, escpecially with autism, he would try and bring them closer, as he thought.

The next few days were going to be horrendous days for James Farhold and Josh Neil.
