The Dog And The Mynah

There was once a stray dog that lived in the country. He lived on berries, jackals, wild rabbits and any other tasty food that he can find. He was very talented and very sporting. On a fine afternoon, he found a piece of fresh cheese, which could only be found once in a blue moon on the pathway. Just as he was about to congratulate himself, a sly-faced mynah flew down swiftly down and stole the cheese stealthily. The dog�s eyes flashed with anger and resentment. He chased the mynah until the mynah found a tree to perch safely on.
Panting, the dog realized the mynah was not going to drop the cheese unless he forced her to. In a flash, he started to make a sure-fire plan. In his five years of trickery, he thought he should knew how to lure a mynah without her noticing. Then, he had a sudden hit of inspiration. In order not to arouse any suspicion, he started to observe the mynah�s actions in a casual way. She was cocking his head from side to side, as though no one had ever stole a piece of cheese from a stray dog. That�s it, the dog thought, saturated with happiness. I can get my yummy cheese back. He put his plan into action.
The dog praised the mynah craftily. �I heard from my friend, the sparrow, that you can sing as beautifully as a nightingale. Will you sing a song for me?� The mynah had never been flattered like this before. Everybody seems to say mynahs have the same shrill and high voice like the crow. The mynah nodded, her big eyes glittering with tears of joy. She started singing proudly in that screeching voice. Just as she opened her beak, the dog�s beloved piece of cheese fell out. Seeing that the mynah didn�t notice that it had dropped, the dog ran like a bolt of lightning and caught the cheese between his teeth. The mynah stopped singing immediately, frustrated that she got tricked so easily. Seething with anger, she protested angrily, but it was too late. The dog had already fled into the shelter of the forest, now already just a dot in the distance.
The dog ran and ran, only skidding to a halt when he reached the heart of the woods. He raised his shaggy head, and saw a tiny jet-black speck in the sunlit clouds, looking uncannily like an angry mynah searching for some cheese to fill his stomach. The dog smiled like a contented old man. He, like the mynah, was proud of his achievements. But he was not greedy for praise like the mynah is. So he eventually he headed for home and chewed his cheese slowly, savoring the sweet taste as he went along, and admired the beautiful sunset. The rosy and salmon-pink sunset was glorious, the sun setting down behind the towering mountains in a sea of liquid gold.
