ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
I'm seventeen years old, and I live in a small town called Lake Orion. I have been writing since I was 8 years old, and just find the prospect of writing your feelings out loud on paper is the best thing you can do. I hope to be noticed soon with my writing. [December 2007]
No we don't act with common sense.
And yes there are some things we do regret.
People telling us what to do from here to there,
Sometimes it's so natural to not even care.
We're stuck in a stage where life is a party,
Self-destructive behavior is so inviting.
Rebellious, with some looks of defiance,
We all make up part of this young alliance.
We turn the other cheek refuse to accept the real world,
Life is all about us, nothing else matters.
Carelessness, immaturity is there to show,
Responsibility, all goes out the window.
Anger and frustration are aimed at us to see,
Those are all examples of being seventeen.
I will not change my ways because someone says I should.
I'm still confused, wandering through life blindly,
Still not knowing if someone will find me.
The world outside looks harsh and mean,
That's why I wanna be stuck staying seventeen.
What you say goes in one ear and out the other,
You scream and shout saying "why do I bother?"
Talking to me is like talking to a wall,
I roll my eyes, shrug and say "is that all?"
My half-hearted attempt at growing up fails,
I won't bother giving the details.
Having fun, being brainless is my only priority,
That's what is important to me.
I'm told many times to act my age, not my shoe size,
But acting like that is where the fun lies.
I wanna be free to do what I want, when and where,
Without me saying "that's not fair".
Stupid decisions I don't care about,
Cuz they just lead to another, not seeming to stop.
What I want and you want aren't in relation,
Because what I want fits the equation.
We are all the same, not conforming,
To certain standards cuz we think they're annoying.
So stop telling us to have our lives straight and set,
Cuz we're not ready to grow up yet.

"History and tradition can open our minds to discover the wisdom of those before us. Living only in the now for self-gratification will only hinder your growth and maturity. There is no automatic pilot that will take you from seventeen to forty without some bumps in the road. Prepare yourself for them. Try thinking about God. If you haven't, you ought to try. At least it might get you to stop thinking about yourself for awhile. " -- Richard.
