Tears And Beauty

Like static crackling on the umbrellas the rain falls
Tiny drops chase each other down the window
catching the orange street lights
The tears streak down her face
Salt, mascara, foundation and pain
Catching in the corners of her mouth
A car runs past breaking the wobbling reflections
She wipes the tears with the back of her hand
Smudging her red lipstick into a jeering grin
Stepping from the window
Gazing at the photo in her hand
A clock chimes in the distant wet streets
Echoed by a rumble of thunder
Her face seems to crumple
Her legs give way and she falls
The clock finishes its knell
Around her in the silent flat the noise of rain is deafening
A flash of lightning shows the bottles on the floor
Shows the piles of magazines and photos
Of the models she longed to be
