Social Contract Annacat
From the shores of anywhere for centuries
We welcomed anyone to our country
But now things are not the same
As we look for those to blame
Listen to crusaders of pain
Our long legacy of resilience
The foundation of our brilliance
Have we let that slip away
Its all we talk about today
Rethink the rules that we obey
So lets write a social contract
That we can all read and sign
And we will enter into this pact
That none of us can decline
We need to cross this chasm wide
Erase all the bitter and deride
So our kids can live on the other side
Our founders thought to write promises
But couldnt know that time changes
The life that we weave
Progress that deceives
The despair that it leaves
Above and beyond the papers we know
It is clear we have a long way to go
To come to agree
Fix blight we can see
Its pretty simple to me
So lets write a social contract
That we can all read and sign
And we will enter into this pact
That none of us can decline
We need to cross this chasm wide
Erase all the bitter and deride
So our kids can live on the other side
For those of you who have things
There is a fairness that wealth brings
Compassion is not an unkind word
Charity for poverty is deserved
Your resentment sounds absurd
Maybe you worked long and hard
Maybe you dug it up in your backyard
Doesnt matter where it came from
You cant take it from this kingdom
Share some and enjoy your freedom
So lets write a social contract
That we can all read and sign
And we will enter into this pact
That none of us can decline
We need to cross this chasm wide
Erase all the bitter and deride
So our kids can live on the other side
To those who have not found success
We expect you to do your best
No one here gets off for free
There are things you could be
Earn your place in this country
You should try to be educated
No kids until youve graduated
Two parents make a home
No child should grow up alone
No sins for you to atone
As we are swept down this landslide
We need to see the give and take
Arent we all on the same side
A time for civility to awake
Sad pictures result from collide
We all share an equal stake
Too late to just roll with the tide
The time has come for us to decide
Will it be a march to victory
Or a leap off the cliff of history
