Bernadette (Some Call Me

If you were a scary monster for a day, what would you do, Kate? asked my friend, Lisa. Id prove that not all monsters are scary. I reply as I take another bite out of my apple. How would you do that? I smile at my thought. I would make a sign that says: I am not here to harm you, I come in peace. and hold it up. Lisa laughs. As we pass a rubbish bin I put the apple core in it. I would rob the chocolate machines and eat it all until I feel sick, and then eat more! I laugh. Lisa looks at her watch. Havent you got a soccer game on? Its the grand finals too! Quick! Youd better hurry! See ya Kate! I run down the footpath yelling thank you to Lisa. I arrive at the oval. I am the team captain of The Dark Side team. Our colours are purple and black. We all like dark colours, so thats how we decided on it. The team we are versing is called Flash. What a lame name! Here comes the captain of the opposite team now. Hey Kate, I hope youre team likes coming second! says Mariah, the captain of Flash. Well, you probably know that were gonna win and youre to scared to admit it. Go and annoy someone else. Havent you got a life to live? I say. She storms off over to her teamsters. Jane, the Goalie from our team, walks over to me and snickers. You got her that time, Kate. Wheres the referee? Jane asks with a hopeful look. Id better concentrate on the game I dont know. Just then the referee appeared. Jane sighed with relief. Now. Everyone is here so well go over the routine. Oh, everyone knows the routine. Im so nervous. If the butterflies in my stomach were ants, thered be a colony. I mean, this IS the finals. I sing the team song. Its lyrics are (The words in the brackets are backround words)
(break it down)
T(t-h-e)
D(d-a-r-k)
(step) S(s-i-d-e)
Step to the left and dont stop grovin
Step to the right and dont stop Movin
Everybody on the field just break it down
Cos everybody knows the dark sides comin to town
Maybe it might not be the city or town,
But when all the teams come verse us we wont ever back down
So whoz the team (who?)
Whoz the team that will never ever let you down?
(everybody say it with me!) The definite one and only..
D-A-R-K S-I-D-E!

There is a beat that you sing along to, but I forgot to bring along my portable CD player. Some of my teamsters helped in making the beat. Leah played drums, Ruth played bass, and keyboard was myself. The rest got the lyrics for us. Its not a bad song once you put it al together. In fact, I reckon it sounds pretty cool. Especially when we use a batter powered CD player and dance to it. Flash doesnt have a song. They reckon its a waste of time. They probably didnt know what they were missing out on. The game is about to start. The referee signals us to take our positions. Were all in our uniforms, and so is flash. Theyre colours are silver and yellow. Ugly colours. They probably dont care. The referee runs into the middle of the field with the soccer ball. I am facing Mariah in the circle that is placed for the captains to stand in. Were gonna win mouths Mariah. Bring it on I mouth back. There goes the whistle. I boot the ball as hard as I could. Dribbling it across the field is Christy. Jane is running alongside me so I can pass it. I pass it over and she easily scored. 1 nil says the referee. Beginners luck. Mariah mumbled. Tuh. More like No luck, just skill. Anyway, a person from the opposite team throws it in. After a couple of hours the score was 9-5 (Us, 9. Them, 5.) with 30 seconds to go..25...20..15..10...5...Times up. We win!!!!! YEAH!!! TOTAL THRASHING! WE WON! yells Chelsea, one of my teamsters. Wonderful. All my teamsters gather up in a group and signal me to join them. I walk over to the group and join them. Victory once more.
