Single And Unique

See her standing there, single and unique.
A bright and shining light in a world that is so bleak.
She looks around the world with innocent, childish eyes.
Never knowing her world is full of corruption, hurt and lies.
She is innocent and pure and accepting of everything.
Her belief in humanity never shaken with the hope of what tomorrow brings.
See her growing up, becoming teenager then mother.
Cradling her child, whilst following in the footsteps of another.
Now that she is getting older she is realising more.
The world is not everything she believed it was before.
She tries to shield her child from all the pain around.
If they would grow up strong and fearless that would make her proud.
See her now, she is still single and unique.
Now she knows the truth that her world is still bleak.
A single tear trickles down her wrinkled skin.
If only things were the same as my journey did begin.
I have seen all kinds of pain throughout my life.
and I hoped that before I died I would see people live without trouble and strife.
