Remembering the night
under a pale yellow moon
stars laced, together intertwined
blinking endless on a blanket
we would lay

with a wind so soft it carried 
your scent, through the trees
I would swoon, as you stood in front of me
ivory skin, showing pale 
in the quickening darkness 
of a night falling soon 


We watched each other  
briefly, awkward at first
knowing this love we found 
was ours this time

The feelings we felt
for each other this night
seemed ever so right, knowing nothing 
would ever be the same again
Living for the moment
as with faded memories now 
except for one

Remembering this night
for us is like the smell of lilacs blooming 
and the Spring of another year
capturing the newness of first love
and the promise of youth

For one night when memories fade 
the promise of young love
in our hearts
lives on
