Pissed—Or, We Did It to Ourselves(yes, read fucked)

I’m angry. And let me say this once and for all ‘cause I won’t rest till I do: We had no business letting an airplane hit our Pentagon. ANY airplane—ours or somebody else’s. Missiles should have existed on the rooftop to deter such a disturbance. Death was imminent by any account. I had the mistaken idea that that structure was inviolate. So much for ice water thrown in one’s face. And so much for all that defense money spent decade after decade. Of course I know it’s easy to talk after the fact. I hope we build a new Pentagon, that it will be 100 miles from congested urban areas and that most of it will be subterranean, state-of-the-art and evoke our pride.

I’m not only angry, I’m worried. God protect the Ted Ralls and Noam Chomskys’ right to rant on this planet. I’m concerned about losing what limited freedom we’ve come to enjoy and appreciate through the years. Let the Islamic countries(which are rich because Western countries bought all that oil and made them so) have their ground-kissing prayers and strict societal rules for every Tom, Dick and Harry who’ll swallow them. I’ll take our beloved Christianity and its freedom of choice any old day. If I want to go out and raise HELL one night then pray and repent all the next day, so be it. It’s my business—between me and God, anyway. And if I swipe a thing or two now and then, I don’t want any henchman chopping off a hand of mine! Let me repent when I’m ready.

I’m not only angry and worried, I’m also sad. I’m sad about the great Meism that so flagrantly exists on a wide scale in so many places. ME—my cars, my houses, my acreage, my antiques, my pocket money and to hell with my brother, my neighbor or any other impecunious pest that might dare ask me for a dime. Who’s it gonna hurt? cheats asked for years while taking one Anderson-style liberty after another. Well, it hurt everybody in our marvelous country, that’s who it hurt. Time to pay the piper, face the unfortunate music.

We don’t need a certain law to enable our citizens to protect our country, Mr President. We need citizens who LOVE our country--warts and all. Those are the best protectors we will have ever. They have been alerting authorities for many years and those who truly CARE will continue to do so.

I feel better now. But on second thought, and looking at the “care” our country has going for it at present(obese citizens, shady accounting practices, etc.), maybe we could try those civilian laws a little anyway. Didn’t daddy say people do what you make them do? Yes, he did—over and over again. Last but not least, let’s get busy reviving and making ourselves over(Dionne) spiritually and ethically! Thanks for reading this far.

"Woah! Let's accept our country warts and all. But let's hate fat people even more than shady accounting practices. Ok, like many reactionaries, this writing would have us be tolerant and love our country, but only in the ways that HE thinks is appropriate. I remember my sister in the national guard, crying because she was on "fat watch," i.e., in the position of having to lose weight or be kicked out of the military. All female folk in my family are very large, but sturdy and strong. She ate nothing but salads for years on end and still gained weight. I know she didn't cheat, I was rooming with her at this time. In the end she settled at about the exact same weight that all other women ended up at in our family, and left the guard. Now she's happy. The war against the obese is intolerance, pure and simple. A short while ago, the studies showing obesity wasn't as dangerous as all the alarmists proclaimed hit the light of day, but scared the wits out of the diet industry. Now we're back to the war against people of size. I can't even begin to imagine what other groups this writer hates. Intolerance is intolerance in any form. I am sad, angry, and DISGUSTED with this writer's call for unconditional love of our country when his own words reveal he doesn't stand for unconditional love at all. Nothing justifies our enemies attacking us as they did on September 11. Nothing justifies hatred masquerading as love of country." -- Clyde.
"The author mentions obesity. He does so in a collective sense(that the country is out of shape), not individually. I'm sad that the reviewer sees any kind of hatred housed by me. I will work to purge myself." -- Randy, Colombia.
