Phone Poem
Desmond Swords

Hi, Im on the train,
in the car, chilling out,
Im just about to come around,
go away, stay in , stop out,
walk about the house playing with me dog.
Im really well set up,
Ive got a good job, crap job, no job;
Im on the dole, the sick, the full hit;
Im happy as fuck, miserable as sin,
unable to begin my life until I talk,
preferably so all around can here what is said
and realize by my sound that
I am a person to be respected, not respected,
loved, laughed at, put upon, put down, played with,
toyed with, get tanked up with,
showered with praise, shit upon
and idolised by me mum, me sister,
me mums sister, me dads lad he had with Elsie,
her over the road,
him in the shops serving fruit and veg,
you, me and anyone I care to be;
coz thats what Im about you see.
And now Ive told you this Ill say some more,
make it fact, confuse and bore
and lose all track of why Im here or
where I was before.
Oh yes, that's right,
its the phone defining life trap which Ive fallen for.
Have phone, go far, ring for pizza, be a star;
talk to mates who are running late
from chance encounters which only serve to break
monotony whilst talking into plastic really well.
Hes got a way about him on the phone
and she's never knowingly alone,
when waiting for her friends to call, or text,
depending on who next
to maul, or soothe with harsh, then
softly spoken words.
