On The Ledge Katherine Smith
Stand upon the edge of that ledge
Are you afraid to leap?
What is now and existent was never truly you
Your mask torn, every fiber of its' being, now lay in ruin
"May you spend your remaining hours on this Earth alone"
Their words reiterate rapidly in your mind
Your knees become weak, as you draw in a breath for the very last time
Memories surround you
As the City’s lights blind you
Airy the night, the cold wind chills you
There is no turning back, now.
No falling to your knees,
No begging Please,
Will no one claim your sinning soul?
No hands will be raised
No more praise
For the deeds of this life have come to pass
No more tears
Release your fears
Here comes your final Plunge
Try to imagine
A Mother’s expression
A Father’s scream in the midst of the night
They will suffer
Your pain is merely momentary
For their’s will last for all eternity.
Your feet begin to shuffle,
Finally you leap
The darkness surrounds you
Your eyes remained closed
Numbed by the cold is your bones
Your father awakes
You were never forgotten
Just a product of Society’s ignorance
