My Baby
Emma Michele Thomas

Just one minute and Iíll be there.

To dress you nicely and brush your hair.

To talk to you softly and talk you to sleep.

I hold you tightly, your kisses I keep.

Youíre my baby, so innocent and young.

With a life so tender, not yet begun.

I love you strongly but youíre not there.

You havenít been born, it isnít fair.

I have to imagine my child is here.

The dream of you being,

The nightmare I fear.

Youíll never arrive, youíll never be born.

I cannot have you, My heart has been torn.

Alone forever, babyís gone.

Write you a poem, sing you a song.

Maternal instincts, so clear and so strong.

Wanting my baby, it cannot be wrong.

I decorate your room, though youíll never be here.

The reason why though has never been clear.

The hanging mobile, the tiny toes.

I picture you playing as sweet as a rose.

I call you my angel and thatís what you are.

Iím watching my baby, so near yet so far.

I cry for you softly and laugh out the fear.

Ignoring the reality that youíll never be here.
