Money : All The Wrong Reasons
Joseph Albrecht

Today is thanksgiving here in the U.S.; I for one have a lot to be thankful for just being born in this country. More of our society seems to be struggling for decent jobs, especially the new generation of college graduates looking for work. The average pay from the jobs tends to remain the same or even decrease, while the cost of living continues to climb. For one thing, the gap between the poor and the wealthy is widening at an unexpected rate. Now we turn to congress to help. When Fox News recently interviewed President Obama about the availability of jobs in the U.S. “it is important though to recognize,” he went on, “that if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession.” I don’t see a recovery here Mr. President. I do unfortunately see a rise in the unemployment rate. From garynull.com an article written by Paul Krugman states “In December 2008 Lawrence Summers, soon to become the administration’s highest-ranking economist, called for decisive action. “Many experts,” he warned, “believe that unemployment could reach 10 percent by the end of next year.” In the face of that prospect, he continued, “doing too little poses a greater threat than doing too much.”
Ten months later unemployment reached 10.2 percent, suggesting that despite his warning the administration hadn’t done enough to create jobs. You might have expected, then, a determination to do more.” Another economist who I’m starting to listen to is Richard Martin. You can listen to his shows on www.progressiveradionetwork.org. He recently moved to Singapore with his wife because their home was robbed In the U.S. He feels that in another ten years or so it is highly likely to see another form of the Great Depression in the U.S. Weather or not congress will take positive action towards these issues remains uncertain. Paul Krugman states “Most economists I talk to believe that the big risk to recovery comes from the inadequacy of government efforts: the stimulus was too small, and it will fade out next year, while high unemployment is undermining both consumer and business confidence.
Now, it’s politically difficult for the Obama administration to enact a full-scale second stimulus. Still, he should be trying to push through as much aid to the economy as possible. And remember, Mr. Obama has the bully pulpit; it’s his job to persuade America to do what needs to be done.
Instead, however, Mr. Obama is lending his voice to those who say that we can’t create more jobs. And a report on Politico.com suggests that deficit reduction, not job creation, will be the centerpiece of his first State of the Union address. What happened?
It took me a while to puzzle this out. But the concerns Mr. Obama expressed become comprehensible if you suppose that he’s getting his views, directly or indirectly, from Wall Street.” The action congress is taking seems to be dwindling as they want the majority of Americans to believe that there is hope, but when they want to take action they are stopped in their tracks. Corporations have un-proportional amounts of power and yet their primary goal is to maximize profit at whatever means necessary. They are allowed to get away with this because of the sham laws our congressmen sign supporting these unethical actions.

As for now though you have to be thankful for the things you have. Last night my Dad told me while taking a break from working at a substation he walked around in the woods. He saw a tent set up with a bicycle next to it. That person is going to wake up tomorrow in search for free food on thanksgiving, while I am able to have a nice sit down meal with my family in comfortable conditions. Keep your hopes up and you can notice the good in your life that others don’t have. In many ways our standard of living is beneficial.
