Ignoring the strident and earsplitting sounds of the faraway thunders, he toddled jadedly through the heavy downpour with drenched clothes and gloomy eyes. The downpour grew heavier each minute and he knew it well - that the rain would only bring back throbbing memories. The memories of when he was a loner, unwanted and cursed child. The day when he lost his gay smiles, innocent dreams and his hopes, the day everything of him shattered into a million pieces.

He passed through the unfamiliar routes, leaving muddy footprints on the cemented road. Undaunted by the sinisterly dark shadows of the intimidating trees, he walked steadily to his destination. Time after time, he kept repeating to himself that he would never again set foot there, but there he was, situated in front of his mother’s grave. The rain gets lighter and lighter and turns to drizzle.

“Happy birthday mother, how have you been? It’s been quite a long time isn’t? Ironic isn’t? Today’s his birthday too. Remember those times when the three of us will play on that beach? That was my favorite holiday spot by the way. We were so happy that we’ve never thought of any storms coming. We were such morons.” He said grimly with a dim smile towards his mother’s grave and continued after a jiffy halt, “Do you still think that I should have died in the accident instead of him? I thought about it, maybe it will be better if I were to die in his place so that you can still see him without committing bloody suicide.”

He paused and opened his mouth to say the next words yet nothing came out. Being unable to put on a phony mask any longer, he fell to his knees and tears started to roll down his sleepless eyes. Bending slightly down, he covered his miserable face with his hands and whimpered out stridently.

“I was only trying to please you in every way I could. I covered up my earnest sadness to see you smile. I tried everything to make you love me, yet in you eyes, everything was and is always going to be brother. You love me because he was there. From the start, you only treated me as an unwanted child. Why? Was it because I was dumber than him!? Was it because you blamed me for his death? Mother, tell me, I don’t understand… what did I do wrong? Why don’t I deserve your love?” he said while moaning upon his unspoken melancholies. “And don’t touch me with your shivering hands. Don’t pat me if you don’t want to. I was only trying to make you happy… You can say that you love me. I don’t mind if it’s a lie, I just want to hear those words from you. It has been my only wish…Now that you are gone; I’m alone in this world.”

There was a split second silence and sounds of the droplets of water were heard. Biting his lips and closing his swollen eyes, he calmed himself down and rose up. Accompanied by the sound of the light drizzle, the voices of the black crows and the rustle of the daunting old trees, he uttered out softly, “I will not come again, but even though I know I will only hurt myself, I will still love you like a child would love his mother. Goodbye mother.”

He put his hands in his pocket, and sauntered off with a calm smile of relief drawn on his face. Just then, a pure white feather landed gently on his head. He took it and realized there were writings on the beatific feather. Upon seeing those words, he broke down into million drops of tears…
