Long Walk Home Alyssa B
Verse 1: Pull up in the car with dad;
were at the Laundry Mat.
Another day with a bunch of chores;
man im going to be so board
Listen to the radio that’s one good thing;
dad goes inside so I roll down my window and sing.
He said “it’s going to take a while,
you should just walk home.
See you in about an hour or so.”
As im walking down the street
I see a little girl with little brown curls
walking with her daddy.
I see some guy talking on his cell phone to his wife.
I see two boys in the parking lot I think there will be a fight.
Chorus: There’s a push…
then a shove…
then a scream as he pulls out his gun…
There’s a boom…
then a jolt…
but no one even knows…
But this is how it goes
on my long walk home.
Verse 2: Walking down the bike trails and over some logs.
Across two streams gets me where I need to be.
Kids in the valley playing with cards;
a woman singing to her baby not to far.
I think to myself know one even knows who you are.
If we live in such a small town then
why don’t we know half of the people around?
Get back on a regular road
walking past a regular home.
Dad is screaming and breaking dishes,
children are crying and their mama is bitching
about something I don’t know.
Someone runs out not looking
before they cross the road.
Chorus: You hear a scream...
see a crash…
Feel a sudden jolt…
no one even knows
But this is how it goes
on my long walk home
Verse 3: Finally I walk up my drive no one is home
Gee, what a big surprise no one is anywhere to be found
The phone rings and its mom.
Im going to be out for the rest of the night
”you’ll be fine, right?”
Another day will you be gone mom I guess you just don’t care
don’t you see what your going to me when your never there.
Dad gives me a call and says “I gotta work a double shift again…
I got to cancel our plans; there will be another time for them.”
I hang up the phone and turn on the TV.
Breaking news flashed on the screen.
Young boy shot to death in a vacant lot.
Little girl found dead in a parking spot.
I turn off the TV and wait for my ride when I get in the car I know it’s my time
We were speeding down the road going way to fast-
Chorus: Then I heard a scream…
I felt a jolt….I saw a crash…
I was standing outside the car with not one scratch
an angel was by me in all white clothes and he said
I think you know its time to go…On your long walk home!
