Let No Man Tell My Story Piper Davenport
I've done a lot of soul searching, and come to the conclusion that despite everything, despite the lies that people are spreading about me, despite the fact that I write my essays out of a need to put closure on experiences I've had, and my need to forgive others who are driven by selfish desires, I must learn to live in peace. I must be able to look in the mirror at myself and like who I see. One thing that I have definitely learned is you better learn to look out for yourself because popularity is a destroyer of mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial virtues. You are never completely on top for long, and even when you are, someone else can come along and knock you down. That is why it is so important not to think that you know everything, can have it all, etc. Also, you must learn to do the right thing, as opposed to trying to being popular because popularity fades away. It is like an ongoing roller coaster that never really remains steady. These realizations have made me turn inward to focus more on what you cannot control. Unfortunately, there are people out there that have decided to punish me because of their own instability, and their own fears. I can do nothing except defend myself the best way that I know how: by writing. Writing has certainly been a wonderful source of joy, and now, I must use my writing as a vehicle for my sorrow.
I realized that the problem was not me, the problem was the life that I had enveloped myself in. I can think of numerous instances where I gave people the benefit of the doubt, but they didn't return the favor. I had been taught to think the best of people, to not be jaded by anything, to believe the best of others. In times of trouble and need, will I sink or swim alone? Can I count on others to do the right thing? I found myself dead. I sat down and began to write. In the words of Arthur Miller, "Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets. " I read this and began to believe in those right regrets. Even if I was standing alone, I'd continue to believe. If I could walk through the storm, and protect my heart, then I knew that I could laugh, love and live deeply. Without that, I was nothing. Forgiveness was not for others, it was for me. Once I realized this, I was finally ready to tell my own story. Here I was. With that knowledge, I wasn't ready but I was getting to a place where if I knew I could make it through each day, I could make it through to the end. I was about to take my faith to a higher level. I was broken and happy. But if I could put my own pieces back together again, then maybe, I just might make it after all.
Here a few sad truths that I have learned about the world around me:
“Do not become bitter with adversities. It will only give your enemies power over you.” (Piper Davenport)
"Fascism is headed toward America and that is the most dangerous experience we will ever face in our lifetime." (Piper Davenport)
"I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate."(WC Fields)

"When people spread lies about you, don't fret. For one day, someone may spread lies about them. Then, they will see the errors of their ways." (Piper Davenport)
"I know up at the top you are seeing great sights, but down at the bottom we, too, should have rights. " (Dr. Seuss)
"Try to be like the turtle--at ease in your own shell." (Bill Copeland)
"The federal government is like a handicapped turtle trying to crawl around and keep up with the rabbit, which is technology." (James Breithaupt)
"Being a little cynical is good for the soul. It keeps me on solid ground." (Piper Davenport)
"If people are willing to believe the lies about me, then what does that say about them, about me?" (Piper Davenport)
"Slow and steady wins the race." (Aesop)
"If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." (Matthew 15: 14)
“When people talk about you out of ignorance, don’t get mad. Give money to charity. It may not redeem you in their eyes, but it will redeem you in the sight of God.” (Piper Davenport)
“You must be your own best friend for you can never disappoint yourself.” (Piper Davenport)
"I'm nobody, who are you?" (Emily Dickinson)
"I have a higher and grander standard of principle than George Washington. He could not lie; I can, but I won't." (Mark Twain)

"The things we truly love stay with us always, locked in our hearts as long as life remains." (Josephine Baker)
"It only takes a few minutes for a lie to be born but many years for the truth to evolve." (Piper Davenport)
"A lie can run around the world six times while the truth is still trying to put on its pants." (Mark Twain)
"It's not where you start off at. It's where you finish at (at the end of your life, career, etc.) that matters." (Piper Davenport)
“Be careful about whom you look down on. You may have to ask them for a favor someday.” (Piper Davenport)
"Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." (Leroy "Satchel" Paige)

“People do things to make themselves feel good. You can do yourself a favor by not engaging them, unless the feeling is a reciprocal enjoyment.” (Piper Davenport)
"The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding." (Albert Camus)
"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money cannot buy." (Book of Proverbs)
“People will only do the right thing if it benefits them.” (Piper Davenport)
"Go out in the world and work as if money doesn't matter, sing as if no one is listening, love as if you have never been hurt, and dance as if no one is watching." (Anonymous)
“You could be the sweetest person in the world, but it doesn’t matter if people are willing to turn on you when they hear the worst of you, regardless of whether it’s true or not.” (Piper Davenport)
“Writing should be rare and precious. The writer that writes for the written word, and not fame, will outlast even the worst of their critics.” (Piper Davenport)
"Being popular is like a game of blackjack. The outcome is never quite what you expect." (Piper Davenport)
"Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down." (Anonymous)
"To expect too much is to have a sentimental view of life and this is a softness that often ends in bitterness." (Flannery O'Connor)
