Hitched To Your Chariot Annacat
Staring straight ahead at the upper shelf
Looking as if there was something to see
The mirrored wall reflects what's left of myself
Always one drink away from where I want to be
Finding friends on a barstool for the price of a round
Making small talk to pass small time
Filling my deep potholes with this borrowed ground
Finish my dinner with a slice of lime
Tell a story once that no one wants to listen to
Erase some distant memory
Tell a story twice, the second time just for you
Try so hard just to bury it
Close your eyes and see sad things you knew
Forever hitched to your chariot
Hope your horses can carry it
I was a kid when I went to serve my country
Seemed back then there was nothing to decide
The military was exactly what I wanted for me
Then I saw my friends and team and war collide
I returned completely intact on the outside
They all look at me with careful decency
My best friends are all on a quiet hillside
Sit by their stones look at the sky and ask myself why
Tell a story once that no one wants to listen to
Erase some distant memory
Tell a story twice, the second time just for you
Try so hard just to bury it
Close your eyes and see sad things you knew
Forever hitched to your chariot
Hope your horses can carry it
In an armored car in a friendly town
Driving to an outpost in broad daylight
I was in the gun turret looking down
When a blinding flash erased my sight
Blurred images and deafening sound
Struggle to get back into the fight
As I get my feet back on the ground
Funeral pyre of our car on its side
My friends are smoldering inside
For the price of a drink can you possibly see?
Listen carefully to the demon torturing me
Comfort of where you sit how would you carry it?
Forever hitched to your chariot
Forever hitched to your chariot
Pray a drunken horse can carry it
