She rolls the words around on her tongue
Polishing them like pebbles being lapped by the sea
I-am-leaving-you
She weighs each one
Two years of tears, shattered dreams, heartache for each word
Three lost children and one lost innocence
She stares at him with the words imprisoned by her teeth
Battling against her lips and screaming to get out
I-AM-LEAVING-YOU
The words scream at her
Hundreds of bruises, marks and cowers of fear for each word
Eight lost years and one broken spirit
She looks at him slumped on the chair, grunting at the telly
Her jaw slackens and the words tumble out
‘I am leaving you’
They whisper from her lips
Years of making up, sharing triumphs and failures for each word
Ten small steps and a quietly closed door
