Fire Burned Annacat
You say I’m strong
I don’t feel that way
But I’ll play along
Pretend everything is okay
Gave up on happiness
Settle for something less
I never saw fear
I never shed tears
I was never aware
There was trouble out there
My parents hid
The things you learned
I was just a kid
That the fire burned
Most days I am lost
Are they looking back at me
Fight fear at all cost
Do you think that they see
The confusion of a stare
Seeing something never there
I never saw fear
I never shed tears
I was never aware
There was trouble out there
My parents hid
The things you learned
I was just a kid
That the fire burned
What happens when rats race
Do the betters set the line
When parents call you a disgrace
And it happens every time
See them seldomly
Feels like eternity
It occurs to me that I was protected
And it is clear to see I was neglected
Never taught the fear of what happens
Take care to learn a term of consequence
And as I fend off the glares of jealousy
That my parent’s wealth bequeathed to me
All I can do is my usual quick look away
Face those knowing stares one more day
I never saw fear
I never shed tears
I was never aware
There was trouble out there
My parents hid
The things you learned
I was just a kid
That the fire burned
So am I someone you would admire
Fearing the things I have never seen
Shackled by the steel chains of desire
Walking mean streets like I’m fifteen
But I am looked upon like royalty
When in my reality
This is the last place I want to be
This is the last place I want to be
