Family Bond Geneva Keith
Grandma when I was young, I used to sit on your bended knee,
Then night would fall, and we'd go home, I never wanded to leave,
The love that I felt in your house, the place all the family would meet,
The kids would play, out in the yard, climb the trees out by the street,
Till it was time to eat.
I remember the humor back then, when you brought out to lemonade,
And we'd all laugh, cause you would say, it was stirred with an old rusty spade,
And that's why it tasted so goon, my children still laugh at it today,
Another generation, they remember what you had to say,
When you made lemonade those days.
Grandma how could we know back then, that our family would drift so far apart,
The years gone by, the hands of time, your reflection in my heart,
Is not what I saw in your eyes, when I came to see you yesterday,
The four grey walls, the place that you live, and you had nothing to say,
No lemonade that day.
They tell me you'll never leave this place, you'll never live on your own again,
And grandpa's gone, in years long past, and your mind slips out and in,
And someday it will not return, one day a stranger I will be,
But I will know, your heart holds fast, though your mind no longer will know me,
That's how it has to be.
I hear this disease of the mind, may run in the family,
And momma gets, confused sometimes, and what will happen to me,
Twenty years from now, and I have children of my own,
Lord help keep our family bond, to always take care of our own,
Till the day you take us home.
I'm so sick to see you in this place, your life no longer is your own,
Mamma'd take you if she could, but she works hard and cannot be home,
The others would take you so they say, but their busy with grandkids of their own,
Lond come ment, our family bond, so grandma won't have to be alone,
until you take her home.
