Excerpts3 Joeb Van Der Ryn
Day 3
I paid for yesterday by getting whacked with a wooden spoon as soon as I got up this morning. It smarted badly but I didn’t show it. So I got whacked again.
‘Is that how Buddhists react?’ I asked, trying to keep sarcasm out of my tone.
‘No! It’s how sadists react; and I’m happy to play both roles.’
I went to work before I ended up in a spot of bother again.
When I got back home, the poor love was absolutely exhausted from a busy day shopping on ebay. Thank God I bought her the XBOX so she had been able take a bit of a break. It was her turn to sort out the evening meal so I asked her which takeaway she wanted me fetch it from. She glanced at the wooden spoon, and I glanced anywhere but in her general direction. So I think I got away with that one.
We had a lovely evening in. I ate my pizza and she ate both of hers. She talked and I listened. It’s the safest way.
We went to bed and for once I wasn’t in the shit.
I said goodnight to her and I told her I loved her.
‘That’s nice for you.’ She replied.
I bit my tongue.
