AUTHOR
Vianne-Marie Fortier
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sixteen.
Growing up too fast.
Poetry in motion, verses flying past her on the highway.
And she breathes in the air.
She can smell the perfume of decaying unpublished literature.
To her, it reminds her of home
And the Pennsylvania sunshine.

Empty Nest
Vianne-Marie Fortier

She is written on the wind

And in my memory as well

A silent drifting sigh of smoke

That once came from a cozy, country home

We had to leave her behind

Amongst those fraying photo albums and torn doilies

She’s nestled amongst the sofa cushions

Somewhere in that deserted house she built inside

We just had to set ourselves free

From such restraint of this rural terrain

Wear our hearts on the sleeves

Of our flannel shirts

And tell her straight up

Now she sits in her rocking chair

By the rustic scene

Of haystacks and cornfields

In the dwelling

Where she lives inside herself
