Depth Of A Mirror Katherine Smith
I lie awake for several hours, unsure of what to say.
My thoughts race as my heart rate quickens, as my own solitude takes over me.
Only seconds pass, decades in my mind, before I climb out of my grave I call a bed, to have some piece of mind.
I reach not for the Bible, nor for the white candles lying amongst the rubbish in my room;
Yet for a compact mirror, hopefully I’ll find this soon.
Darkness may have consumed me, but I would be damned if it would claim my soul.
The blue compact opens, and my eyes hit the reflective surface,
My eyes lead to my soul.
A soft moan escapes my lips, as a play of fools unfolds in my grip.
In this mirror, my mistakes were laid before me, as if I was an angel from the heavens,
Observing while floating.
My reflection was alive, once ready to draw me in, I fought back the tears as I watched the display, head hung in shame.
I watched this figure in my mirror move about, destroying my loved ones, while her eyes held a cold stare; Clawing and biting, at anything that moved, or had dared.
“This couldn’t be me,” I thought aloud.
My body slowly relaxing, until the next scene came around..
Razor in hand, my half motioned to me, no longer fighting the tears, I was now weeping uncontrollably.
What I saw next, confirmed this was me
The half lowered the blade, and hacked relentlessly.
Wearing a single white glove, the figure pointed a finger at me, angered by my tears, detesting my regrets and conscious for my actions in the past.
My darkest secret, was displayed upon her finger,
The words written in my own blood that had spelt “Murder.”
