Calm Before The Storm

Prologue
Tonrar had entered the Moon Lands. He was staring at familiar ginger fur. A muscular build and long legs with a long, pointed muzzle told Tonrar he was staring at his former leader, Kiinaq. His dreamworld shook. Kiinaq gave a happy rumble. "Tonrar, a great battle is coming." His prophetic dream was slipping away. Tonrar listened intently as his thoughts disappeared. "You must unite against the fight.."
Chapter 1
When he returned, Uumatik was arranging den and nest-building patrols of the bears. He turned and saw Tonrar. He called out to the bears. "Here is a great feast! Let us celebrate defeating the Forest Thieves!" His tribe cheered and gave hollers of praise. They surrounded the catch as it was dropped onto the crunchy snow. The scent of succulent slabs of meat made the bears twitchy. Tentatively, Uumatik grabbed a pike and settled to eat it. After his first bite, he twisted to look over his should to see what Tonrar would think. The Ice Tribe leader nodded, and the bears dived in for the feast. Taqqiq and Siqiniq shared a plump pigeon, Isuma and Ittuluk both nudged a trout towards each other, Qaqqa and Sauniq both dug their muzzles deep into two lemmings, and Uumatik had finished his pike and was now crunching on a muskrat, Ikaqraq eating the last remaining trout beside him. Tonrar's appetite urged him on as he finished off his two baby voles, so he gulped down the dry meat of one of the scrawny snow hares. When he heaved himself to his paws, he noticed two gray dots in the distance. His heart skipped a beat as he recognized wolves, and they had stolen the rabbit and hare! He shook his disappointment away. They were full, and by tomorrow they would be home. Nestling deep into his nest of bracken and sheep wool, he fell asleep.
Chapter 2
After a quite relaxing slumber, Tonrar awoke to silence. It was strange, considering he normally found himself waking up to a battle or some kind of disruption. He went outside to see a rather calm looking slope. The frost was as brittle as ever, crunching beneath his paw pads. Snow had been lumped into a makeshift den around his comfortable nest, so their had obviously been a snow last night, judging by the icy flakes that had been gathered all over the slick rock. Very noticeable pawprints were planted into the snow. Glaring up, he saw a very rememberable brown bear snarling at him. "Get out. The land belongs to the Forest Thieves!" Fochik swung out his massive paw. It struck Tonrar a glancing blow, pushing him to the ground. Tonrar pushed away his panic and splayed out his hindpaws, his forepaws raking down Fochik's leg. The massive forest bear male roared and stumbled back a few paces. Tonrar pushed up and went into a flurry of attacks, clawing and roaring in fury. Fochik tried to dodge, but he was too slow. Tonrar's crooked claws got perilously close to his throat. Fochik squeaked like a cub, begging for mercy, calling for help. But no one came.
Chapter 3
Tonrar's eyes were ice cold. No hint of love or kindness. He kept coming, wounds soon like fur to Fochik. At last, Fochik collapsed on the frost, his dark blood staining the snow crimson. His muzzle was ajar slightly and his tongue peeped out, panting in sharp agony. Fochik's eyes closed, the fire leaving. Tonrar felt an evil sensation. Turning around, he saw Uumatik with Ikaqraq, Ittuluk, Taqqiq, and Siqiniq rushing to help. The white successor skidded to a halt beside the ragged but triumphant Ice Tribe leader. His eyes gleamed hungrily for blood, his eyes bloodthirsty and excitement in his voice as he congratulated Tonrar. "Well done. Tonrar, I am proud to be your successor."
