O lonely heart, when will you learn?
You sit in your darkened cage,
yearning but no longer searching
for that sweet tasting something
all others seem to hold within their grasps.

Hateful heart, you seethe in your anger
at the people who locked you in your cell.
You gave love and wanted to be loved, too.
But they and the world turned their backs
or screamed terrible, scathing words at you.

But stupid heart, you tried to go on.
You closed your eyes to the dangers
and lost bits of yourself in their traps.
Soon you were no more,
just a few bits of hardened scraps.

O lonely heart, you met a different one.
He came with kindness and laughter,
but another one has already claimed him.
So he cannot and will not set you free.
Caged in your grief, you cannot see
that only you hold the key.

"I like it. It is well paced and well written, but I found the last few lines a bit forced - especially the lines :but another one has already claimed him. So he cannot and will not set you free. The style seemd out of place. I know they are part of the poem. Perhaps you could rephrase them" -- Ka_sey.
