Ancient History Of The Ice Xie
Prologue
A grizzled old grayish white male bear was staring intently at a slim she bear. Her movements were graceful as she danced back and forth, her massive paws blocking blows firmly. The opponent, a male about the same size as her, was jabbing his paws at her, slashing out furiously. Suddenly they broke apart, and the elderly male rumbled approvingly. "Well done. Iji," he nodded to the panting but proud she bear, "remember not only to defend, but to strike." Iji seemed defiant. "I know, but Auq was going too fast!" The little male bared his teeth in a mock snarl. "Is that a challenge, cub? Did you know in order to defend ourselves from the Forest Thieves, you need to be strong!" Iji was so angry, the great ancient male swore he saw steam pouring out her ears. "It is a challenge, you devilish arctic fox! Can you handle it? Hey, Iqniq, who do you think is better at fighting?" The male gave a snort of amusement. "Neither. You spend your days threatening and arguing. I don't think you have ever touched each other before." The two gaped at the news, and Iqniq felt a thrill of childish satisfaction. Perhaps one day, Iji would be a good choice for his successor.
Chapter 1
Tonrar guided his bears out of the forest and headed for the bank of a nearby river. After leaping over it, Tonrar realized the tangle of trees and bushes was not the Bramble Forest. He was soon hopelessly lost. "Follow the path of the Ancient Ice." Kiinaq's murmur rang in his ears. Tonrar nodded to the invisible leader. He blinked, and suddenly he saw a young, fit, strong male. He was walking alongside a graceful she bear, and the she bear was guiding a familiar ginger, muscular pelt... "Kiinaq!" He thought suddenly. He called to his tribe eagerly. "Follow me!" They loped behind him at a steady pace as he thundered down a slope, tailing the three misty spirits. Soon, he was trekking up a steep ridge. The male bear, suddenly gray and rasping, was murmuring to the young she bear. "It is my time. Leave me be, Iji," he added as she bounced all over him, worried, "you can't stop it." Iji stuttered. "But... But Iqniq! Don't leave me!" But it was no use. With a gasp, the male staggered and fell. His outline wavered, as if he was under the ocean waves, and his body disappeared. Tonrar's jaw dropped. Could none of his tribemates see this?
Chapter 2
Tonrar looked over his shoulder, but his tribe seemed unaffected. They trekked along like it nothing happened, their proud strides revealing their confidence in him. He turned and continued walking before anyone noticed his ajar muzzle. He snapped it closed rambunctiously and determinedly bounded up the harsh climb. At last, he reached the top. Another scene folded out before him. Iji was lying, wretched, on the snowy plateau. She was wheezing, communicating with the anxious Kiinaq. "It is my time, Kiinaq. Leave me be," the words were familiar, and he remembered these were the same words Iqniq was saying to Iji during his last breath. As Iji's muzzle opened, he noticed that she was just as heartbroken as he was, and through her experiences, she knew how hard it was for Kiinaq. Iji's mouth vibrated to speak, but no words came out. Her head tipped back, fell to the side, and her tongue lolled out like a pink worm. Kiinaq cried, but no audible language came to Tonrar's ears. "You will learn the truth about sorrow..." Was this the meaning of grief?
Chapter 3
Tonrar seemed to shake off his astonishment of how quickly the leaders adapted and pushed away their heartbreak. He followed closely as Kiinaq trekked over the cold rock, slick with frost. He watched as Kiinaq wobbled at first, but soon got the hang of being a leader and continued with sturdier pawsteps. He rose and slid down the last slope. He was older now, gray speckles visible on his muzzle. But his age didn't stop him. He thundered through the Ivy Cave, seeming distressed. "He must be running from the flood." Tonrar almost mumbled his thoughts aloud. When Kiinaq had passed the tunnels, water was trickling into the cavern faster than lightning. Now, it was drier than the forest in No-Ice. After a while, he saw Kiinaq looking at him. His eyes were wide and pleading, as if begging him to run. He smelt something tangy, a musky odor. It was so familiar... "Forest Thieves, attack!" Brown and black bears pounded down the tunnel. Kiinaq turned to him, and he sank into the ground. Every hair on his pelt was screaming to tell him to beg Kiinaq to stay, but he knew it was useless. He whirled around, facing the bears. He addressed his tribe boldly. "Ice tribe, be brave. It is time to defend our hierarchy, our hopes, our tribe, and our lives!"
Series 4: Book 3: Through the Darkness
Fun Facts! Trivia Below!
1) Fang is named after Claw and Star is named after Silver.
2) Claw and Silver met in their dreams. This is the reason they believe in their dreams strongly, and when they dreamed about Taqqiq/Droplet and Siqiniq/Robin, Claw and Silver were able to persuade Leopard and Flash, and when the two littermates did come back, Leopard and Flash took them in without a second thought.
3) Claw had a brother named Fig. Fig had kittens with a beautiful golden she cat named Marigold, but the two and their kits were killed by cats that looked like Leopard, Flash, Azalea, and Kiinaq/Flame. This is why Claw and Silver were so aggressive when the quartet came by.
4) Fang and Star were taught to fight by Claw and learned to hunt from Silver. Oddly enough, Star fought better than Fang and Fang hunted better than Star.
5) Little do Leopard, Flash, Claw, and Silver know, Claw is Foxclaw, the brother of Azalea, and Silver is actually Glitteringsky, no matter how much they changed.
