A Tale Of A Squire
Terence Boydon

Once upon a time, there lived a squire, a squire whose entrance to knighthood required one significant task. The task was to love someone with all of his heart, mind and strength for all eternity. The task seemed tedious and simple, but love's never dull, wearisome and unadorned for love's always miraculous and mysterious.

Determined, the squire together with his companion, a certain maiden, set forth for an adventure of his life not knowing that his quest would be very tough.

After some time of traveling, the squire and the maiden met a fairy. A fairy whose splendor was incredibly magical. This caught his attention and made his heart beat so fast. He approached her and confessed "I am so lucky to have met such a lovely lady like you. Your magical splendor set me dazed. I'm starting to fall for you."

The fairy then replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted "I will love you as long as the sun burns passionately and the moon glows vividly."

But even before the next sunrise, the squire came tired of loving the fairy and left her and her thoughts that her knight had truly come.

Upon leaving, the maiden questioned the squire "You were unfulfilled?" He just nodded and continued to move.

After some time of traveling, the squire and the maiden met a princess. A princess whose prestige was outstanding. This caught his attention and made his heart beat so fast. He approached her and confessed "I am so lucky to have met such a lovely lady like you. Your outstanding prestige set me dazed. I'm starting to fall for you."

The princess then replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted "I will love you as long as the sun burns passionately and the moon glows vividly."

But even before the next sunrise, the squire came tired of loving the princess and left her and her thoughts that her knight had truly come.

Upon leaving, the maiden questioned the squire "You were unfulfilled?" He just nodded and continued to move.

After some time of traveling, the squire and the maiden met a harlequin. A harlequin whose ability to bring laughter was exceptional. This caught his attention and made his heart beat so fast. He approached her and confessed "I am so lucky to have met such a lovely lady like you. Your exceptional ability to bring laughter set me dazed. I'm starting to fall for you."

The harlequin then replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted "I will love you as long as the sun burns passionately and the moon glows vividly."

But even before the next sunrise, the squire came tired of loving the harlequin and left her and her thoughts that her knight had truly come.

Upon leaving, the maiden questioned the squire "You were unfulfilled?" He just nodded and continued to move.

After some time of traveling, the squire and the maiden met an angel. An angel whose divinity was incomparable. This caught his attention and made his heart beat so fast. He approached her and confessed "I am so lucky to have met such a lovely lady like you. Your incomparable divinity set me dazed. I'm starting to fall for you."

The angel then replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted "I will love you as long as the sun burns passionately and the moon glows vividly."

But even before the next sunrise, the squire came tired of loving the angel and left her and her thoughts that her knight had truly come.

Upon leaving, the maiden questioned the squire "You were unfulfilled?" He just nodded and continued to move.

After some time of traveling, the squire and the maiden met a goddess. A goddess whose beauty was perfect. This caught his attention and made his heart beat so fast. He approached her and confessed "I am so lucky to have met such a lovely lady like you. Your perfect beauty set me dazed. I'm starting to fall for you."

The goddess then replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted "I will love you as long as the sun burns passionately and the moon glows vividly."

But even before the next sunrise, the squire came tired of loving the goddess and left her and her thoughts that her knight had truly come.

Upon leaving, the maiden questioned the squire "You were unfulfilled?" He just nodded and continued to move.

The squire came to a point where he felt that his endeavors would only bring him despair so he gave himself one final chance. He asked himself and asked the maiden "Am I forcing myself to love because I desire knighthood?" She answered "I think you're letting the yearning for your knighthood do the judgment too much. What if you let your heart do the judgment?" He took again another deep breath and rested. The maiden did the same.

The following sunrise, the squire with a changed heart and the maiden started to continue their journey.

After some time of traveling, the squire stopped and looked at his fair maiden. A simple human being. A familiar one. A member of the past whom for the squire was significantly insignificant. But at that moment, the squire saw her in a rather different light. The squire saw her as one seamless individual far from all the hideousness the world has. One look made him say "You are different."

The squire took his step and approached his fair maiden and confessed "I am so blessed to have such a wonderful lady like you. You are far more magical. Your simplicity brings far greater prestige. Your smile delivers a million smiles in my heart. You do not have a halo nor a pair of wings but you are so angelic. You are so human yet so perfect..." The squire's heart was pounding wildly as each word slips thru his lips. "You...you set me fascinated...I am awestruck." The squire's heart was pounding even more wildly as each second passes. "I...I love you..."

The fair maiden replied "How long will you love me?"

The squire asserted in a noble yet proud tone "The sun and the moon together with the stars will be eternal witnesses of my love for you, my dear."

Then, the fair maiden demanded "Then, attest that I will not fall on the same fate just like how your past affairs had suffered."

The squire finally declared "With all due honor, mark my word! ...I'll prove it! You'll see!"
