A Man Of Misery
“A MAN OF MISERY”
“WHEN A MAN LIES HE MURDERS SOME PART OF THE WORLD, THESE ARE THE PALE DEATH WHICH MAN MISCALL THEIR LIFE. AL THIS I CANNOT BEAR TO WITNESS ANY LONGER, CANNOT THE KINGDOM OF SALVATION TAKE ME HOME?”
Five male characters:
Drunken father (Harry)
The dead son (Danny)
Men from the morgue (Seymour & Walter)
The caretaker of the morgue (Rufus)
Make up Requirements:
Normal make up on all but the most important thing is the boy, who needs to look dead.
Bedroom scene; mirror, bed, dresser, closet.
Three white coats (if possible), ragged clothes for father and child.
Dim lighting coming from one light bulb in the center of
the room. The bed should be right under the light bulb, which should hang from the ceiling.
Some stuff used for special effects including music:
(3 music used)
The son has just died, killed by his drunken father and his father is at the side of the body weeping at the loss of his son. While he is weeping the boy calls out his father’s name. He starts talking to him about what a bad father he was. He tried to defend his image of what their life and reality was. When the men from the morgue were coming to pick up the body, they quickly got him to lay down. They took him away as Papa was wailing. He said he loved him.
The reality is, there is no “father” character in this play, but it has been decided that an alternate character should be created, that is a “father” to the son in this play, replacing the “mother”, due to certain circumstances. There’re only four characters in this play but we decided to add one special character that is the “caretaker” of the morgue, because there are five members in the group. Two additional scenes also added to this play, together with the existence of the drunken father.
(THE PLAY STARTS WITH THE SCENE BEHIND THE CURTAIN, TOGETHER WITH THE MUSIC 1 PLAYED AS WELL AS THE NARRATOR TELLING THE STORY)
I’M AN OLD MAN WHO WALKS ALONE, WALKING ON THE DARK ROAD AT NIGHT, STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK.
