1st Part Intro Roberto J Moreno
Long before the dreaded walk I think to myself, "Is this the time to go? Make all of this home, create and redefine myself?" Standing by the dark, I find myself intrigued by the thought. U2' s Wake Up Dead Man plays in the background and its bass-line zones you to the zombie like atmosphere. Pleasantly still and no drift, time seems to stand still. Slow mo' reels seem to make this dejavu. However, unlike the many times I've been here, I struggle. A thought has translated into a dilemma. My life is in vacation. Permanent some say, but I belief it's necessary to get away until you can look at yourself. Have you ever thought of a place, and when you went there all troubles seem to go away. Whether it is in your head or a real place you can always feel safe. I look down and the ants seem to go away. The lizards found their prey, as morning light seems to come down and wake the dead. My head feels light and I feel numb. I guess I must be tired after all. I like the night and when it glows, I miss that sense of well being. Can it be that I can physically be content and mentally need to confess? Sinners are we all, some more than most, but in some way guilty of the pleasure. Doesn't it feel good to lust? In some weird way to want someone out of our reach, to close her eyes and dream. Have we all not had lust? Lust is in love, how strange is that? Is it a sin when you belief? The sun strikes and the leafs fall. Like fallen dreams that often float. Giving and living hope. There is no one else to blame for the fall. I walk down passed the stalls. This has been a long walk. Night falls again, and this decision has me up against the wall. The voices in my head drive me out of my mind. Falling behind the whispers that crawl from my endless nights, I wonder if I'm asleep as I walk the street. Satellites up in the sky, and my thoughts up for grab. Can this journey be more confusing? It started with a promise and its turn to a life dilemma. So, what's my answer? It's like confession to a natural born sinner. The sound of the sea relaxes and amuses me. Never ending sequences of waves crashing against the shore. Not sure, but in a way, it's the only consistency this world has. The wind is catching up with my thoughts. This guy from across the board says to me, "Do you think, we have evolved?" I answered, " In a world were a man has to carry a gun, a woman can't have a choice to abort without being looked down upon, and governments create wars. You tell me." He looks down and nods his head, " I guess everything is not what it seems." A valid point coming after his fifth drink. Well, conversation runs thin, and I'm left to wonder about my thoughts and dreams. Self diagnosed to over analyze every cause, action and thought I'm still stranded. Running across many unknown, traveling without a real cause. Just to figure things out. I encounter a beautiful woman. Shoulder length dark brown hair, 5'10, around 115 pounds, light skin (with a tan), small squared glasses that give her a sophisticated look, and clothes that outline her physical attributes. She talks to me about the idealism of equality. How women have the right to be equal and are as strong as men. As she keeps preaching about the greatness of womanhood. Its always astounded me how women do not fight for military draft at the age of 18, or pay for dinner on a first date, or open the door for a man. Instead, women use the fact that they are women to gain advantage. Which is fine by me, but if you want to be treated equal then the bad things should apply. Now, I'm not saying every woman is like this. I mean we are the same, the only thing that differs women and men are the physical attributes. Well, after four cups of coffee and discussions ranging from woman rights to the mad cow disease, I find myself in her apartment. Her right arm across my bare chest and having had an exceptional sexual experience. This leads me to think, that sex is better after having an intense discussion. It's like make-up sex in a way. Only more intense, because even in bed you try to illustrate the finer points of why you are better than any of his or her previous sexual encounters. The wind blows the curtains. I get up from bed and walk over to close the window. It's a beautiful morning; the night is quiet and sensible inviting you to look at its beauty. She brings me a robe. "What are you doing up?" she says. "Nothing, admiring the sky from this part of the world. I'm glad I’ ve made this trip." She replies, " I'm glad too. God, I was amazing tonight." We both laugh and stare into each other eyes. She places her arms around me. Not only does she stick to what she beliefs in, but also she has a sense of humor. Morning comes and I'm gone. I left her a note. Telling her I'll be back for more, and this time I'll stay a while at home. On my journey I must go. To learn whom I am, and explore what only pictures and stories have said.
I get on the morning train to a city known for its history as well as its activities. The sight seeing is astounding, the trees and the fields, the castles and the farmhouses. Night covers the landscape, and I can’t fall asleep. I begin to think how much I don’t miss where I come from. I don’t miss my family though I do miss my dog. I also don’t miss the fake personalities, the ghetto/gangster attitude that people are adopting and the philosophy of life. I’ve always thought of myself as a loner, and though traveling with two other guys I still push myself away from them. I like and strive on being independent. I want to see what I want to see. I don’t want to tag along or wait for others. Hello, can I take your order? Screw that. I came here to view life in a different perspective and to see it in its different shades of gray.
