You Must Be Dreamin'
Eric White

I woke up the other day.
Not from a dream, but a state of being,
That I didn’t understand.
Was I awakened, was I mistaken.
Was I what’s left of a man whose soul's been taken.

But now that day is today.
And I fight the dream gone wrong.
I may not fully understand.
Was it fake, what’s at stake?
How can I have dreamt when you’re always awake?

And so I’m,
Empty and alone, but stronger on my own.
I was placed on a pedestal, out of reach.
And the love I felt,
Is just a figure of speech.

A self full-filling prophesy,
Is what I get, handed to me in a wrapped regret.
I understand where it came from.
An insecurity, to the third degree.
An innocent victim of the falling debris.

But I’m happy in a way.
I’ve shown you more with a hope restored.
You may not understand.
What I’ve done, or undone.
But I’ll miss you the same, although you’re not the one.

And so I’m,
Empty and alone, but stronger on my own.
I was placed on a pedestal, out of reach.
And now the love I felt,
Is just a figure of speech.

I hope one day you dream.
I hope you find what you’re looking for.
I know now that’s not me.
At least, not anymore.
