I wrote this song when I was about 17. I sat at my piano and out of nowhere it came to me....It took me about a half hour to write and at the time I was listening to alot of 10,000 Maniacs. One of their songs called, "What's The Matter Here," really touched me. I could see myself feeling the same way Natalie Merchant did. I had never really thought about children being abused untill I heard that song....After thinking about it, I sat down and wrote Innocent Child... [224 words]

Innocent Child Sean M Payne
Innocent Child
by: Sean M Payne
A Child was born…
Of love and need…
Innocence was there…
What does it mean…?
Everything is lost…
Once it’s taken away…
Alright and so the child prayed…
And he prayed…
For something of truth…
He prayed for the love but it was used…
If he was to cry to you…
Would you do the things that you do…?
Oh oh oh…ah ah ah…
Oh oh oh…ah ah ah…
Set the child loose…
To run beyond the stars…
Let the child roam…
Free and far…
And in this little boy…
Was a love greater than you’ll ever know…
Greater than you’ll ever show…
And he prayed…
For something of truth…
He prayed for the love but it was used…
If he was to cry to you…
Would you still do the things that you do…?
And he ran… He ran for miles…
And he swam…
Well he swam in a river of sorrows…
Until something was found…
Inside the dream…Inside the dream
Inside the dream…
Damn your hands…! Damn your eyes…!
Damn these words you keep hidden inside…
One of those little lies… One of those little lies…
One of those little lies… One of those little lies…
What is this light that I see…? (What is this light that I see…)
What is this life made out to be...? (What is this life made out to be…)
Was an Innocent Child…He was an Innocent Child…
Was an Innocent Child…He was an Innocent Child…
