Childhood Dreams Adagio
He allowed himself drift to another time. His eyes were closed and he swayed his head to the sound of the music only he could hear. He raised his arm and took the hand of the pretty young girl he saw in his mind. He pulled her closer and softly placed his hand against the small of her back. Silently, he danced with her to the rhythm he remembered. He held her close, reliving the feeling of never wanting to let go; imagining for a short time he could experience that feeling deep in his stomach one more time. With his eyes still shut, he could see himself moving between his old friends, smiling as he passed them. He could almost feel the joy and innocence in the air around him.
The years between then and now fell away completely and nameless faces that had long since been forgotten were standing an arms length from him, sharing a joke, talking about things of no concern and of little consequence. As he drifted through the room he tried to take in every detail. He absorbed every experience his senses would allow.
For a time, the feeling was so beautiful, the time he spent there was so overwhelming. The longing to stay in that time was so inviting, but as the music began to fade, he drifted back through the ages until he opened his eyes, and an emptiness took hold of him. The short feeling of happiness began to drift away, the pretty girl’s memory fading in his mind. He closed his eyes again, but reality shook him awake.
As he closed his book of photographic memories, he smiled, thinking that tomorrow would bring a whole new experience to relive.
