Private Contemplation (Poetry) - [157 words]
I spent my 16th birthday holding hands with myself. Running laps of an imaginary oval in my head and crossing names of an imaginary list.
Later I lay face down on the floor, naked, licking up lines of speed while you mixed marijuana with tobacco. You're a tight dealer.
My eyes felt clear as glass, but you kept informing me they were blood stained. I'd had enough, as I begged you to pass me six more lines.
You laughed an innocent laugh, which would later echo in my ears as a symphony as my body convulsed against a jagged brick wall
My back would become scratched and bleed all over my mother's brand new beige carpet. As I tried to clean up the blood that also ran from my mouth and nose. I am naive. Naivety and ignorance save me. I convinced myself, I didn't know better. Nobody had told me, drugs would kill me.
You asked me my name twice but it seemed like a thousand times, as you lay me out in the middle of the floor. My throat was dry and I'd burnt the inside of my nose with the cocaine I'd taken from your stash while you threw up in the bathtub.
Naked, bruised and bleeding I threw up all over myself. A pot boiled over on the stove as you told me once, which seemed one million times, you were hungry.
My mind filled with non-sensical pictures and words, feelings and sounds. Delerium.
The pictures scared me.
The words I couldn't read.
The feelings made me laugh. Tickling me.
The sounds were deafening, I screamed at you holding my ears to turn off the television.
Jerry Springer laughed at me. Then yelled at me, abusive words.
Suddenly a song by the Verve popped into my head "the drugs don't work, they just make you worse."
I threw up again, as I felt my body flying across the room, hitting the walls. Concussing me.
My vomit was a cathartic release as I mourned myself. Grief filled the air, my air, the only air I could get inside of me.
I threw up my life, and it lay there before me, in a bloody puddle.
