Ain't Love Grand?

Anthony sat, for what seemed like the hundreth time, at the round table in the corner of the coffee shop. He had recently began to try out dating sites and so far he had not had any luck. It wasn't that he was a bad looking guy, just very average. He stood at about 5'4 and was about as plain as a person could get. It was his nervous personality that drove most of the women he had dated away, but what he lacked in charm and looks he made up for with miles of heart. The reason he had began searching for a woman was because he had no family and greatly feared living the rest of his life alone. After all the good deeds he had done and all the charities he had donated his time and money to, he felt it was a small favor to ask to be with someone who made him happy. All Anthony wanted in this world was to die with someone he loved by his side. This would be his fifth date and he hoped it worked out better than the rest. It wasn't that he had high standards, the women he had went out with before were just, well, slightly scary. The woman that had 50 cats rose to the surface of his mind and he fought an insane urge to laugh out loud. He sat and waited, constantly watching the door, as the acrid smell of coffee and baked goods wafted through the air, the door opened and in stepped the most beatiful woman he had ever seen. She looked around the coffee shop, as Anthony's breath was literally taken away, spotted him and began to make her way over.
They sat and talked for hours on end. She told him about her work and what she did in her free time, he told her the same. As the date drew to an end Anthony rose to escort her to the door and as she walked down the sidewalk, he watched her leave with real regret. Anthony could not believe how compatible he and this woman were. She was kind and gentle, believed in the same things he did, she shared his fears and his dreams and had the most beatiful name, veronica. He walked home in a euphoric state, taking in the beautiful autumn new york night, feeling the clean,crisp air blowing through his hair and at the moment he had never been happier.
Veronica sat reliving the date, feeling the exact opposite of Anthony. Hate pounded through her veins and she saw red as she recalled the man's face. She could not wait to experience the thrill she had felt when she did away with the others. She had thought to herself before, what made her want to kill, she was a normal, middle age, career-minded woman, but had been beaten and abused in everyway by her ex-husband, he had died in a drunken car crash before she could take his life. Since the end of her marriage she had always had a strong disliking for men and decided to do something about them all, or atleast the ones she could get a hold of.
Veronica and Anthony went on numeorus dates, and as Anthony's love for her grew, Veronica's hate for him intensified. However she continued to play the part and smiled and laughed right along with him, all the while imagining the violent demise she would bring to this man. Time went on and the couple began seeing more and more of each other, finally the time came that they decided to go to bed together. They made plans to meet at Anthony's house the following night.
Anthony rose before the sun to begin preparing for the magical night he was sure awaited him. He sat out the romantic dinner he planned to cook later in the evening and began cleaning his house from top to bottom. It's almost time. Anthony thought nervously as he began cooking the dinner. He followed the step-by-step instructions precisely because he wanted nothing but the best for his angel. While dinner was cooking, he sat at his dining room table, turning a diamond engagement ring over and over in his hands. Anthony knew he and Veronica hadn't known each other long but that didn't matter to him he knew he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with no one but her.
Veronica came and they ate dinner, laughing and talking, and having a great time. After dinner was done Anthony sank to one knee and looked up at Veronica's sweet, angelic, face with tears in his eyes, and asked her to marry him. As she grabbed her steak knife and sank it deep into his left eye, which gave away with an audible pop and as a green gelationus fluid ran from the wound, she almost felt a touch of regret. That feeling, however, was replaced by the quick rush of power she felt and she laughed to herself as she bent down and picked up the ring for a souvinear. Anthony lay daying next to the woman he laughed, and got his wish, for he did not die alone.
