Late For Dance... Sarah Robertson
I stared out the window as I drove through the now thickening fog
to the dance studio. I popped a donut hole into my mouth and
chugged down some scalding hot coffee as I pulled into the
parking lot, 5 minutes late. Quickly I slipped out the door, pulling
a raincoat over my head, and in my haste, I forgot to lock the car.
“Sorry I’m late!” I gasped as I clambered into the room, “ My
alarm got set for the wrong time and I overslept!” I explained,
hoping with all my might that she would forgive me. But that’s
when I realized that there was no one there. “Hello?” “Alex? Leyla?
Mrs. Larson?” No response. I snatched out my cell phone to see if
I had any missed calls. I didn’t. And that’s when I heard it, a low
growling sound coming from the back office. Umm… I thought to
myself …somebodyelse will take care of it…I’ll just go finish my
breakfast, and with that, I cautiously walked out of the room.
I reached for the front door and I had this weird sensation that I
was being followed. I turned around, and of course there was no
one there. I’m just a little jumpy is all, I told myself, the class was
just rescheduled and I didn’t get the message. It will all be okay.
I grabbed the handle and pulled, but it stuck tight. I knew that
I wasthe last one in and I didn’t lock the door, what was going on? Then
I heard it again, just a little bit louder, that faint growling sound
right behind me. I didn’t look back, afraid of what I might see,
just pulled on the door with all my might, nothing. I pounded on
the glass and looked out at the parking lot. I was sure that there
had been cars there when I first arrived and of course my car, but
there was nothing there. Maybe the person in the other room
could help me. I turned around slowly and screamed bloody
murder.
