Poor Little Kitty Came Home Garry Michael Ames
it was raining outside the smithsons house. too wet to go outside. "have you seen little kitty anywhere"? young lucy asked her mother. "have a good look around the house", said lucy's mother. "i already have done", said lucy. little did they know that their kitten had got lost in the rain. little kitty went up one street and down the next. she still could not find her way home. kitty was cold, hungry and wet. she saw a big, round rubbish bin in one of the gardens. kitty jumped into the bin looking for food. there was no food in the bin. kitty jumped back up to the top of the bin. but she fell back in. after a few jumps she became very tired. kitty curled up into a little ball inside the bin and fell asleep. it was getting late and quite dark. young lucy's father called the police. "i'll send out a search car", said officer grimble. it was now very late and poor little kitty was still asleep inside the bin. the search car turned into the street where kitty was. it went right past the bin and turned into another street.
"we'll send out another car in the morning", officer grimble said to lucy's father. early the next morning lucy got out of bed. it was still raining outside. she took an umberella and went to look for poor little kitty. lucy went up one street and down the next. still no sign of kitty. lucy turned on to the street where the big round bin was. by now kitty was awake. lucy walked passed the bin. "meeow", went poor little kitty. young lucy didn't hear her. "meeow", went kitty. this time lucy heard her. she ran up to the bin and looked inside. there was poor little kitty all cold and wet. lucy pulled kitty out of the bin and held her in her arms. "oh kitty, i found you", cried young lucy. she took little kitty home and kitty never got lost again.
